HTC Mail or Android GMail app?

I only use the gmail app and I think its pretty good. It doesn't save cache/data to internal memory and I've never had issues with battery life or notifications with it. Not sure about the mail app, I never wanted to set it up for my AOL account because it gets too much junk and I don't want my phone going off all day, if I ever want to check it then I just use a bookmark through the browser.

I like having Gmail accounts, but I don't like the Google Gmail experience because of their forced 'conversations' thread view. So, I disabled Gmail sync and instead configured my main Gmail account on HTC Mail. Plus, I noticed that in the Gmail app I have to hit the download images to see HTML email, while in the HTC Mail app I don't.

Do the images auto appear in the HTC Mail app?

I hear that the next update from HTC will set the retrieval lower.
i was going to use google apps for domains because they have an exchange connector which would work really well with the htc mail app.

i am sold on the htc mail. i love the fact that I can pinch and zoom. i will sure miss the label feature though.

You can still use your labels, bro. You press menu -> more -> move to -> select item that req the move -> then select the folder or "label" and voila!

This is my only real complaint with Gmail (both online and in the Android app) and if you look at the postings on Gmail, there are others that feel the same.

I don't want to open up a whole thread when I read email... It is not a forum, it is email!!! ;)

Plus, sometimes it clumps things into conversations in a strange way,

I'm not sure if this will help, but I use the stock HTC email app that came with the hero for my Gmail, and it shows each individual email in the inbox, not as a conversation. Just wondering if this will help you.

Yep, and like another poster already commented, the HTC Mail app even has 'Pinch and Zoom'.

Yep, I've scrolled through some of those gmail forced feature threads too. Seems like we're not alone. It's funny how Google can add stuff like Wave and not have a simple Labs feature to turn off the stinking conversation thread view. But then, it we would still probably would not have that feature in our Android phones anyway. Oh well...Thanks HTC for including a alternative mail app! ;)

Personally, I use the HTC Mail app for my gmail due to the fact that I can control how often it checks for new mail, whereas the gmail app doesn't offer that. If you receive tons of email per day, it has helped me save on battery life by using the HTC Mail app over the gmail app

I'm pretty sure that the Gmail messages are pushed to the Gmail app rather than it retrieving messages, which is how the HTC mail app handles it, so it shouldn't be a serious drain on battery life.
