A (25/30 min) taxi to mine from town would be about $35/40 (EUR 25/30)... not bad if I've got friends down and we've all been out, but a bit hard to swallow when it's just me/me n the wife!
I do want to see "The Hobbit" and will at some point before it leaves theaters. I hadn't seen "Skyfall" so that was Saturday afternoon's activity. So much better than "Quantum of Solace"!
Beijing... Buses 1 RMB, that's about 10p GBP, anywhere in the city. Subway 2 RMB, about 20p GBP, anywhere in the city.
Xilinhot... Bus-fare is same as Beijing. Taxis 5 RMB, about 50p GBP, anywhere in the city, although it's a small city.
I've never actually seen any of the Lord of the Rings movies in their entirety. I've got them in English and Mandarin, student gave them to me last year, just never got around to watching them.
Another forum I'm a longtime member of is in deep talks on the recent tragedy. I feel very strongly against guns but Americans view it differently, I guess
Our bus prices are quite reasonable. Metro bus is $1.60 wherever you go. We have another "private" bus called the Circulator. Far more limited stops and there's only a handful of routes, but it's only $1. I love it when we're going to certain places.
The Metro (subway) though, is stupid expensive. Fares are all over the place, and there's maybe 4 different times of day when it goes up and goes down. Very confusing.
Also, when my wife worked for this big corporation and took it to work they offer "Smart Benefits". Essentially it's pre-tax money set aside for them to use on the Metro. Big complicated system, but I guess it needs to be since we have the 2nd most used subway system in the country (after NYC).
