Help My Verizon's Samsung Galaxy Note 2 DOES NOT work with the samsung media smart dock

Is anyone else having issues with getting Verizon's Samsung Galaxy note 2 working with Samsung's official media dock? During the same week the note 2 came out for verizon, i had a verizon rep mention to me that verizon was selling the Samsung media smart dock which lets you connect a usb mouse and keyboard to control your phon. That part of the samsung smart dock definitely works beautifully as i type this post on my galaxy note 2 connected to the smart dock with a wireless mouse and keyboard. I have the wireless usb receiver connected to the samsung smart dock and i have full mouse control and about 80 percent control of the keyboard (several hotkeys and even special keyboard functions like brackets do not seem to work so my verizon note 2 must be mapping the keyboard keys differently) i was even able to get a wireless usb xbox 360 controller working with the dock and downloaded a nifty usb joystick mappying app that let me use my wireless usb xbox 360 controller for games like shadowgun and dead trigger (extremely fun to play with an xbox 360 controller)

now, the only issue is that the hdmi out will NOT WORK AT ALL, which is one of the reasons i bought the dock. I have the dock powered with the usb adapter, have my hdmi cord plugged in the dock and to the tv and BAM i get no signal floating on my tv screen when i switch to hdmi input. I use that same hdmi cable to my xbox 360 and voila my tv screen shows me my xbox. So i know its not the cable. Whats even more nerve wracking is that ive been on the phone on hold with samsung tech support for more than 20 minutes, and am still on hold when i type this post up. before coming up with the idea to write this post and while i was on hold with samsung, i decided to check and see if verizon still had the samsung smart media dock listed on their website for sale. And guess what i found out DUN DUN DUN. The samsung smart media dock was missing from verizon's website. Does anyone else smell a conspiracy? i think so.

My guess is that verizon jumped on selling the smart dock maybe even with samsung's blessing only to realize that the firmware loaded for verizon's galaxy note 2 doesnt support the samsung media docks hdmi out feature! Therefore, verizon quietly pulled the samsung smart dock from their website while turning a blind eye to their customers in agonizing pain (like me) when they come to realize that the hdmi out doesnt work for their verizon galaxy note 2 while they are on hold on their 2nd call for nearly 30 minutes with samsung support level 2!!!

anyways, putting the conspiracy theory aside (which i wholly believe to be true), is there anyone else who bought a samsung media smart dock and is unable to get hdmi out working??? Any insight would be helpful. If not, at least some people could post in support of my conspiracy theory and then we could start some kind clandestine superhero group that would save other verizon users from the tragedy that befell me.

I bought my Smart Dock from Verizon and my hdmi out works fine on my Vizio TV.

I use the HDMI out on my Smart Dock on my monitor at work and it works great, no issues at all. I have the Verizon GN 2. Plug and play. I may be misunderstanding what you wrote but try powering the media dock with the Samsung wall charger as Samsung recommends. Your message implies that you are powering the Smart Dock from your USB hub.

The Smart Dock should have come with a wall charger that plugs into the Micro-USB port. If I misunderstood your message then my apologies.

Well that blows my conspiracy theory out of the water. Would you be able to answer my following questions?
are you using the smart dock with a Verizon note 2 or a note 2 from a different carrier? Was there anything you had to do to in the settings start mirroring your note 2's screen to your tv or was it that once you plugged in the hdmi cord it automatically started to mirror your note 2's screen? What kind of hdmi cable are you using i.e. what brand and length of hdmi cord? When did you buy your tv? What is your blood type and would you be willing to donate a kidney to me? Is your note 2 rooted tv out via hdmi to work? Thanks in advance for answering these questions.

I have a generic HDMI cable, about three feet long. I simply plugged the cable into the Smart Dock and then the Monitor. I didn't touch any settings on my Verizon Galaxy Note 2. It automatically sends the signal to the monitor. The monitor is a 27" HP Extra Glare Shiny Screen.

Well then....i was hoping it involved some kind of complicated setup so at least i could blame Samsung for not including the full instructions in the box...but if it's as easy as your saying...then my tv probably doesn't work right...i will have to investigate this further...

The smart dock, by the way, is still listed on Verizons website and yes, it does work just fine for hdmi as long as you plug it in to a wall outlet as directed. You should be more careful next time before placing a post like yours as it could wrongly negatively influence many people who are looking forward to purchasing this accessory. It is a very nice accessory to have and works great as it is intended to function.

Yeah, i was attempting to edit that last night but couldn't find a way to do so. You can just add the word my at the front of the post.

So do you guys think my dock is bad or is it my tv? I did try connecting my dock to my monitor via hdmi to dvi cable but that didn't work either and i assumed it was the cord.

I have 4 hdmi ports on my TV. Of course if i plug the hdmi in on one port and then select a different output to view, it doesn't work.

Yeah i double checked that. Found out that my Samsung tv only enables an input if the appropriate cord is plugged in. So i have two hdmi inputs and only have one hdmi cord plugged in, with the other end plugged into the smart dock but still...all i get is the no signal message laughing at me while it bounces around the screen

Since you are using the same HDMI cord and the same port on your TV as the Xbox, it is probably not your TV or the cord that is bad. Did you make sure the HDMI cord is plug entirely in to your smart hub? What about your phone? Is it plugged it securely to the hub and the screen is on? The hub is plugged into an outlet? The outlet has power? If all those are checked, then I guess either there is something wrong with your phone or the hub. You could eliminate one of them if you could get another Note II to try.

Yes i made sure the hdmi cord was firmly plugged in both ends, that my phone was firmly set on the dock and confirmed that my note 2 made the dock noise as i see the charging symbol appear on the battery icon. I also have the dock connected to the Samsung oem wall charger that came with the dock. Everything is connected firmly and the phone's screen is on. Not sure what else i could except take a hammer and....no, no that wouldn't be civil and possibly a crime against technology.

Yea, my Xbox 360, which works fine with the same hdmi cord and same hdmi port. Is there any app available that would be able to jump start my note 2 to mirror it's display on my tv?

Are you rooted? I just tried to connect mine to see if I could figure out why you can't connect and I am unable to see my screen although it says hdmi is connected. I rooted my phone a couple days ago and this is the first time I tried to connect since. I wonder if that had anything to do with it...

According to this article root can mess with hdmi out on some devices. Camera too, but my camera is fine.

Ok I figured out my issue. I used Chainfire's Exynos Abuse apk to root and patch the security breach. I just turned off Exynos Abuse and rebooted and my hdmi is all good again. Now I will reenable Exynos and disable if I want to use hdmi.

Well i wasn't rooted when i tried to mirror my note 2's display before but i did download the exynosabuse apk and rooted my phone. I then attempted to patch the security hole and unrooted via super user app. Now i can no longer root via the exynosabuse apk. During all of that, i didn't really connect my note 2 to the dock but I'll give that a shot later tonite and report back

I sell and service televisions for a living, and can tell you that some TVs simply will not work with certain HDMI signals. I wish I could tell you specifically why, but that is how it is. You will probably find that a dvd player or blu ray works just fine in that TV, and you might find that another TV will display the output without issue. Cheaper TVs have more issue with this problem, but I have even seen a commercial grade LG do it with an old android. My laptop won't work on one of my cheap home TVs, but works on all other TVs.

That is quite the interesting tidbit you've provided regarding our little mystery. I still have gotten no progress on my issue as i stare at the no signal message on my screen while i type this post up. I think i might as well return this to verizon and get another one as that's really the only option i have, aside from buying a new tv which will be a lot more costly and still has the possibility to fail. Needless to say, i am not a happy camper
