just upgraded to JB, plugged my one x into my work imac this morn, and its asking for usb debugging and a portable hotspot screen option. how do i mount the hard drive as before and just drag n drop... one of the gr8 features of android??? please say i dont have to use htc sync manager!!!

Afternoon,

Did the JB update which went spiffing :)

I now have a problem when I plug my One X into my Mac and Windows machine...

Now matter how many times I un tick the USB debugging option it keeps putting itself back on every time I re connect the phone...

Its mildly annoying and pre JB it did not do this...

Any ideas?

Cheers

Threads merged. :)

Apparantly, you have to wait for a couple of minutes for it to install the drivers before it picks the Phone up as a disk drive.

I wouldn't disable USB Debugging either, I don't believe it makes much difference to how the PC picks up the phone. If anything, it should improve the chances of the PC being able to talk properly.

Mine seems to work OK. I'm not allowed to install anything on my work PC.
When I plug my phone into the USB port - I simply close the two pop up windows for sync manager and autoplay. If I then go the windows explorer - the phone is on the list as a device - HTC One X. Clicking on it means I can access the internal storage and drag and drop files as before.
All the functions of the phone seem to be accessible as well - no problem browsing music etc. where previously you got the error message that files were inaccessible as the storage was mounted.
This seems to be an improvement to me. Just wish I could disable the pop up windows.

uhhh doesn't that let your computer use the phones data connection???

That is what it is supposed to do, but i found it also let me access the phones storage with out installing the HTC sync.
Just tried it and it does work.
Quick tip though as soon as it's picked up your phone as a "portable device" go back and turn the USB tethering off. The drive still remains connected.

Try this, when you plug in your phone pull down the top bar.
next press usb connected, this brings up anther menu.
Press usb network setting, this brings up yet another menu.
Now select usb tethering, i found this brought up the icon for the phone on my pc with out installing htc sync

Doesn't work on my iMac, I'll try my PC laptop when I get home.. if this doesn't work god knows... HTC sync seemed the biggest pile of poo going... it makes iTunes look good.. HTC have seriously dropped the ball on this...
Battery life doesn't seem as good either.. Google now seems to be a bit of a gimmick, I'm starting to wish I hadn't 'upgraded' now!

Hope it works on your laptop, its a pain other wise if you don't like htc sync

With ICS mounting the device as a USB drive seemed much easier. I'd just plug in the USB cable and choose on my device whether I want to "Charge it only" or "Mount as USB storage"; now, however, when I plug it in, my computer detects it as a media player and that's really annoying, especially in terms of how the folders are listed (not in details or list view) and also when copying, cutting, or deleting files. I have the HTC Sync Drivers already installed, so I don't know how to fix that and have it mount as USB storage again!

Agreed - with ICS I preffered that choice to "Mount as USB storage".
When I did this, I got 2 folder directories; one for the phone itself and another for the SD card. I set up separate Video and Music folders on the SD card, and intended to keep media separate from core phone uses, Apps etc.

Now when I plug in, I just get the phone itself as an icon, the Video (and sub-folders) are now all dumped into the phone's own 'Movies' folder (which was empty pre-update).
I'm not certain, but it seems to me as though I've now lost storage space since it seems to have combined the SD card into being treated as Internal Space.

Probably the most annoying feature, is that by removing the "Mount as USB Storage" option, I can no longer use the USB connection in the car to play my phone's music in the car.

How do I 'downgrade' back to how things were?
