I helped my brother who is new to root, install the paranoid android ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818793. Did a cache/dalvik wipe and factory reset, then flashed it and the Gapps from TWRP. Once the phone rebooted, the AOKP keyboard keeps crashing and is unusable making it impossible to set the phone up with google or anything else.

We then did nandroid restore to previously working state on this ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746184 and another full wipe and reset, tried a completely different ROM with the same problem.

I'm going to send you a PM. Check it and follow whatever I post there.

If I flash just the ROM the keyboard works fine but with no play store or any google apps. When I flash the latest Gapps as suggested in the ROM install guide, then the keyboard sh!ts and I can't get anywhere. An older Gapps file does not work either. For now, we're stuck and giving up on this ROM until we figure it out or there is another suggestion here.

They may have updated AOKP to Android 4.2 where you need to flash the newer Gapps. Goo.im Downloads - Downloading gapps-jb-20121130-signed.zip

I'm not sure so I suggest reading the forum (the last few pages) where you got the ROm again for bugs and if it's updated, you can flash those GAPPS above.

As always, you flash [EVERYTHING] at your own risk.

Yea, we tried that one. Can I flash or install an .apk from recovery such as a different keyboard?

Thanks for trying to help.

I did look at the PM. By sideload do you mean use a file explorer to go to the system/apps directory and load a different .apk in there? If so, I can't get far enough to download a file explorer to do so.

Where can I find the playstore .apk? Before installing the Gapps there is no play store but the keyboard works. Maybe I could install the playstore then a file explorer, install the Gapps, then install a replacement keyboard .apk.

By sods load I mean put the apk on your sd card or internal memory and install the app that way. No need to type anything in the play store seeing as how your keyboard doesn't work correctly
