Root [AT&T] Formatting Internal SD

I've been using a ROM on my ATT Galaxy S3 that has been acting weird; maps force closing, black screens constantly, apps freezing for extended periods of time, and I want to start fresh. I'm going on a road trip for the holidays and would really like to use maps as they were intended.

I wiped all my personal data but there are still some pictures showing up in gallery and some app folders that didn't get deleted. My understanding is that this is all on the internal SD card. Is the ROM itself (AOKP 4.1.2) on the internal SD card also? If I were to go into CWM and format the internal SD would I lose everything and would the phone be unable to boot or would I be able to simply re-flash the ROM? if i were to put the new ROM on an external SD card would i be able to go back into CWM and flash it from there?

If I'm missing something feel free to correct me or point me in the right direction (a guide would be ideal). I've searched on various sights and can't find exactly what I'm looking for, everything seems a little vague.

If you like AOKP (I do) I'd suggest doing a factory reset from CWM as well as "wipe cache partition" and "advanced / Wipe Dalvik Cache" and then flash the ROM again. If that didn't correct the problems I'd go back to stock. If stock works fine.... time for a different ROM.

I'm not a developer and I have no idea what might be wrong in your OS. I'm just saying what I would do with my own S3.

You need to add that once in cwm recovery, click mounts and storage and then click format data and format system.

Certain ROMs also require you to flash the GAPPS for whichever version of Jelly Bean the ROM is of (4.1.1 or 4.2.1 for example)

Go here: Task and Ktoon Jellybean 4.2.1 ROM This is the most stable version of 4.2 out.

Go to link and then scroll down the page and download the file; AOKP 4.2.1 Jellybean Build 12.23.2012 as well as the file below it caller GAPPS for Jellybean 4.2
Do not download anything else.

No boot into recovery via cwm and reset cache and dalvik cache, restore, then go into 'mounts and storage' and format data and system. Now install the new rom, followed by the new gapps. Reboot and enjoy.

If you don't follow steps like this for a custom rom, issues like you described occur. Usually due to dorked up gapps.
