Hey all. I've recently noticed some significant lagging after updating to JB. When I come out of my text screen back to my homepage, I can actually see the clock skip ahead in time from the time I went to my text screen until the current time. When I swipe over to Settings, I can see it hesitate and stutter, as opposed to being nice and smooth, like when swiping to other screens to the right. I never noticed these issues with ICS and was really amazed at how quick and snappy the phone was before the update.

I've seen people recommend a factory data reset, but I'd like to know if other people have experienced what I have and have done factory resets, what their outcome was. Did it resolve the sluggishness? Stay the same? I would like to know, b/c the FDR will consume time trying to get everything back to how it is now and I don't want to waste my time if it doesn't fix my problem.

I don't want to go to a Launcher, b/c I really like the circles widget. I didn't have issues before JB using the stock launcher, so I'd prefer to stay with the stock launcher for now.

I know it's small stuff, but it's still kinda irritating, especially since I was so happy with it before the JB. This combined with the new Yahoo mail app and now no notifications is starting to annoy me pretty good.

Appreciate the help!

I also found the JB destructive to my end uses and made the rmhd quite laggy too. ICS was smoothe and consitent. After a week of tinkering and TS work from Moto, and I did the FDR, not much changed. Maybe a little less laggy overall but still not as fast as ICS, and other things like hdmi output, smartactions, ums options, silent mode...either got the axe or modified such that they are no longer viable applications. I either dont use or workaround the apps mentioned, and live with the lag...until one day perhaps a real JB fix comes out. I agree with an earlier poster who said that Google was going in the wrong direction. It's hard to use the full potential of the phone unless you surrender to the "drive" and allow full location services, etc.

Its a moto thing. All their devices lag. Its amazing a Google owned company can't get moto to be lag free when Samsung with their s3 is virtually lag free

This isn't entirely true, at least in my experience. When I first got the Maxx HD on ICS, it had zero lag and was crazy quick. I was amazed at how responsive it was. If I hadn't had such a great experience with it right out of the box, then I wouldn't be so disappointed with the experience I now have with it on JB. The JB update is the issue, not the phone itself or Moto. I might seriously look into "downgrading" to ICS, as I see no benefits from being on JB and I actually have massive negatives associated with it.

I tried Nova Launcher and all these widget apps (Beautiful Widgets, Elixir, etc) but the experience wasn't as clean and quick as stock ICS. I'm now back to stock with JB and getting fed up quickly by all these nuisance issues. I'll see what needs to be done to try and go back to ICS.

Thanks for the help and opinions all!

I noticed the clock update thing as well after JB and it still does it after the FDR. Like you, I really liked the look and functionality of Circles and didn't want to change but after running both the stock Launcher and Nova for a couple weeks I went completely over to Nova. I also use HD widgets.

My phone runs very smooth. I get a little 'hiccup' for want of a better term when I first go into the phone. The first scroll between screens has a little quick jitter to it and then it's smooth sailing after that. I had the same thing with ICS though whenever I went to the settings screen. With Nova, I have a button that takes me to settings to no noticeable lag there.

Truth be told, the tiny little bit of stutter (lag) that occurs does not bother me at all, and I'm a pretty OCD kinda guy. I honestly don't see what all the fuss is about. But to each he own. I just really wish that we could use Circles with Nova! I don't understand why they can't make that happen. But I'm so used to Nova now that I probably couldn't go back to the stock launcher anyway. I love the cube transitions.

I do agree that there seems to be no benefit to the JB update, unless you are big fan of Google Now. I never use Google Now though so I have seen no real benefit of JB and wish I had stayed with ICS. But there just is not enough reason for me to go back to ICS either since I'm staying with Nova.

Honestly Motorola needs to put out a fix for the JB lag as I would of never bought the phone if it lagged like this with ICS.

If Jelly Bean by Google caused the lag, what kind of fix would Motorola send out. Motorola does hardware. What hardware changed when you updated to JB? I think OS lag fixes should come from Google.

I'm just patiently waiting for my next phone to be released in the Summer of 2014, :smokingsomb:

There's been a huge amount of traffic over on the regular Razr/Razr Maxx forum the past couple days about their JB update which is 4.1.2. We have 4.1.1. So I'm wondering, is the '2' a slight update of 4.1.1 or is it just different because it's a slightly different phone? My hope of course being that they 'fixed' a couple of things that are bugging all of us so much! Then if they are fixed in 4.1.2, we would get that down the road.

Its Motorola who is going to decide what update they push to there phones. There are other manufactures who have JB on there device and don't have lag, this lag is destroying the experience.

Another possible JB lag fix?

Before I pull the trigger and buy the Maxx HD, has anyone tried this fix that was suggested for the Nexus to solve its JB lag issues?

Here's the instructions / suggestions that I found on the gottabemobile site:

How to Fix Nexus 7 Android 4.2 Jelly Bean Lag Issues

If this helps solve the Maxx HD lag, please post here to let us know!

Pegs is right, Currents is not on the phone. But it did give me an idea. I disabled Google+ and guess what? No lag (although what lag I did have before was hardly worth complaining about). Gone. Zippo. Maybe it's just me, so anyone else want to disable Google+ to see what happens?

Did you do a "force stop", or is there another way to disable Google+?

Moto needs to fix this. Bought a RAZR M for my son for Christmas and upgraded it to JB. Everything is smooth and fast on the M. No widget and icon redraws, no lag when hitting the home button twice on the preview screen or swiping of the home screens, no lag in the app draw when swiping between apps to widgets.

Doesn't the M and HD have basically the same hardware except for the screen and battery. The JB update for the M seems to be the same as the HD so why so much lag for us. Even looked at a couple of vids for the recent JB update for the OG RAZR. No lag on it either. Even the S3 that I owned for 2 months before getting my RHD was almost lag free on ICS!

I'm pretty sure they gonna fix it because its working on the lesser M and the year old OG RAZR. Its just killing the experience on a beast of a phone.

Let my younger brother check out my RHD to see what's all the hype. Gave it back saying its kinda laggy! WTF! Keep in mind he owns a iPhone 4!
