Sufficient Enough Power for Charging

During the recent month my HP TouchPad charger has fried out (the barrel part)... was looking into getting another charger, just the barrel... I know that the rating of the stock barrel is: Input specifications of 100

Wish I could help you, the stock charger never worked for my wife when she used this HP tp, she found forums suggesting leaning it against a wall/etc to put a little side pressure on the mini-usb, which tells me that new out of the box the design was insfficient due to specific pressure ensuring contact for charging.

She started using her old phones (SGSII) cable and it charged fine, even with the default message popup stating it's insufficient.

Your post has me curious if there is just an all around great cable that charges the hptp without any messages of insufficiency?

Make sure the barrel on your charger is twisted on tight. (It comes apart.) This app will tell you if it's charging: Goo.im Downloads - Downloading TPChargeTest-v1.0.apk

The stock charger is highly rated. I use it for all my devices (with the stock cable) and have had no issues.

Most after-market chargers will only trickle charge the TouchPad at 500mA no matter what they are rated at. Get a HP charger designed to work with the TouchPad, in other words, the original one that came with it.

Just wondering, how do you know it's the wall charger that is bad?

Well sir I'm no expert here like you guys, but I did find the original cable and charger port, as expected it wouldn't charge, so I swapped the usb cable from my old SGSII phone into it, charges while screen-on now and it's using the proprietary HP charger port (or whatever it's called).

It's like having a whole new toy, hp tab with android, charges fine now, wife's happy with her new tablet and I'm enjoying her old hp tab, pretty cool and thanks for all the help you two.

I have a 2 amp charger for my Nexus 7 and it doesn't charge my TP as well as the stock HP 2 amp charger. I bought a spare charger when they were at $5 and free shipping and still have a nib Touchstone (that I'll never use) that I could use in a pinch.

Bestbuy sells the touchstone for $80, which I won't bother with at 1/3rd the cost of many tablets, cool technology though.

Amazon has the Touchstone for about $42 and, if you go to the other buying options on the side, a few of their associated stores have it for $35 with about $5 shipping. Still a bit expensive but better.

Definitely was the cord, charges full blast with my old sgii usb cord and the stock hp power block now, while the screen is on. The pad is fine, in fact bestbuy replaced it a couple weeks after we purchased due to the charging problem. We bought a laptop and you could get this pad for $100 vs $400 at the time, not a bad deal, especially now. Charging fine now, suspect the mini-usb connector making contact, especially since leaning it on a wall while plugged in with pressure against the mini would kick it on to charging (that means contact points are jacked, period).

As I am constantly reminding folks, certain TouchPads will not recharge after you let them drain to zero. So be smart and be sure you are vigilant about keeping an eye on your tablets charge level and keep it charged up. Turn it off when not in use. Install an app called AutomateIt and configure it to shut your TP off at a safe level like 15 or 20%. You will be glad you did. You do not want to accidentally find out you are one of the unlucky few with a touchy TouchPad!

It has nothing to do with CM10. It's the TouchPad itself. You probably saw where folks were clean installing CM10 and the TP would not charge. That has to do with the MTP box not being checked. This was not an issue with CM9, so it is catching folks off guard.

Not sure about all that, bottom line is for a year it never charged right like countless others, my cable swap fixed the oem issue of a bad cable.
