Can someone explain to me about updates?

I don't get one thing: updates. Why are there so many that is required. I don't do auto updates, so when it's time, I have to update like 30+ different apps. I understand for certain things to require updates: antivirus, browsers, maps, etc.

But why do these require updates?

Flashlight apps, Color notes, circle battery, Flixter, IMDB, MX player, TuneinRadio, Textplus, etc.

I guess I don't understand. Updates are a pain. When I'm going through it, everything lags. I can't do anything else when the phone is updating. If I have to update more than 3-4 at a time, then I might as well put the phone down and have dinner because it's going to take a long time.

Why not update at night right before going to bed?

Updates are required to add new features, fix bugs, keep compatibility with upgraded versions of Android, ect

I'd highly suggest doing them over some speedy wifi to ease the pain

I too don't do auto updates, but I do often look for them. I average about 1 update a day, and takes less than a minute. I suggest don't wait so long in between updating.

Another good point. I update as soon as I get a notification for one

i suggest doing auto update on wifi only. If you have a decent wifi signal at home it shouldn't be a problem. Rxpert83 touched on it a little. The updates are needed to maintain compatibility between not only different versions of Android but also different manufacturers of phones. This is one reason some people are upset with the Fragmentation issue of the Android OS. It's very hard for a Developer to keep his app compatible with so many different versions of android running on so many different phones.

Read the change log. That will tell you what the point is.

I am not an auto update person. I want to know what is changing on my phone. The change logs in the individual apps often have descriptions of new capabilities that were added and you would never know if you updates with auto update. (I only have 125 apps installed.)

Could be bug fixes, compatibility issues with certain hardware, etc. The app developer obviously wants to have a product that works well on every phone and tablet.

Some of the so called "updates" for the free apps are just changing or adding the advertisements.

The advertisements aren't included in the app itself.

Most free apps display ads. If you don't want to see them you can either use the donate version to support development or root the phone and block them

Option 1 is preferred

Because it might work fine on your SGS3, but malfunction on any JB4.2 phones or cause a Nexus device to explode. Hardware reacts differently to code.

Maybe it increases battery life by using less power to use light.

If you look at the page for the app, most developers say why the app is being updated.

Of course, if you are happy the way it is there is no one forcing you to update it!
