Verizon WiFi Hotspot.. No Charge?

So I have 3 friends who get WiFi hotspot at no charge! One has an identical phone on an identical plan. I read that the FCC required them to provide it at no charge, however, my unlimited plan is excluded by the FCC ruling.. Just curious as to whether anybody knows what makes some people able to use it at no charge and others need to subscribe. We are all on unlimited plans. I am not interested in rooting and running a 3rd party app.

as far as I know, the only way to bypass being charged, and still use VZW wifi hotspot is to root, I personally don't use the wifi hotspot, I USB tether using EasyTether Pro, and I'm still on unlimited data

There is no way to do it for free with unlimited data without a third party app or rooting that I've seen.

Just use foxfi. No root required. Not sure why you want to use verizon hot spot. I find its slower anyway.

FoxFi does the same thing. Checks for subscription and asks if I would like to pay $29.99 per month.

No, really its not, because foxfi and other tethering apps worked fine up until jellybean. Android version is always important when trying to answer someone's question.

There's nothing you can do now, root and then use the sql hack would work. But you can't root jellybean yet

Hopefully foxfi will update soon and fix the issues

Actually it was. When I was on. 211 ICS, and it did the same thing. The question wasn't "why doesn't FoxFi work?" you suggested FoxFi so I explained that it does the same thing. Which it has since I was on ICS.

I don't understand why FoxFi is asking you for a subscription. I've been using it since I've had my RAZR with ICS and it just connects and lets me tether. I've never heard of anyone getting that response from FoxFi. carracerz14 may have been a little harsh, but if you're getting subscription remarks from FoxFi, you just might be SOL.

Because he made it a PAID app and sliped it in on the last update, if you don't pay it works for a little while and then disconnects.

I am confused.

This all depends on which plan you have.

I have the share plan with 6GB of data, unlimited phone and text, and the wifi hotspot is free.

You can go down to 1GB if you like...

I think it is $120 / month.

I pay another $20 for a USB 4G modem.

This is not an unlimited plan... I actually gave mine up - I never go near the 6 GB, and my bill was much more than this with less talk time. Maybe one day I will be sorry, but for now I average less than a third of this per month...
