Eris to v2.x, when?

They may be updating the apps because 2.1 has been officially rolled out to so many phones now. There are a lot of Droids out there.

Updating the apps to make them 2.1 compatible is necessary with so many phones running it now. That doesn't necessarily mean it will be our turn any time soon. We can only hope.

well i just thought that they wouldve updated it to be 2.1 compatible a while back.

Phandroid.com is saying that the Droid update should be completed by tomorrow. Maybe the Eris update will start soon.

Maybe. ;)

But we Eris owners are going to have to be diligent about standing outside Verizon stores and questioning all who enter, "Are you going to purchase a Droid?"

If "Yes," or even, "I'm thinking about it" is the response, we must put them in a hammer-lock and roughly usher them back to their cars.

We don't want that Droid update to have to start again.

Very true. I am heading over to my local VZW store right now. We cannot let this Droid update continue any longer. It must end already. :)

I've noticed that too. I hope so. :)

I know I routinely get app updates on my Eris, but I've noticed the past couple of days that I've had an unusually large amount of them. Do you think many of these updates are getting the different apps ready for 2.1?

+1 I have had at least 5 apps update since this weekend!

My husband develops apps for the Droid & Eris, and it doesn't say anything about the 2.1 upgrade to the developers. I think it's just a coincidence.

Good Point! With so many phones running 2.1, it is probably just responsible app developers staying ahead of the curve and keeping their apps up with the times!

I think it is a horrible tease that the e-mail Verizon sent me last week "introducing" me to my newly acquired Eris shows artificial screen-shots of the phone running Google Maps Navigation, and a nicer-looking Marketplace...

Alright guys...I can't believe this. I talked to my IDIOT buddy some more today. It is starting to sound more like the handcent update that just came through. He has no idea but the more questions I asked him refering to handset, the more it sounded like that's all it was. I'm not sure, and neither is he, but I'm betting that's what is was he saw. I didn't know how to admit it but I had to. I'm very sorry for yet another dumb ass post about 2.1. He made me sound like a moron on here and I hope you guys don't hold it against me. I didn't update handcent until later on this afternoon but as soon as I saw it...well, you know. Sorry guys. There will never be another frantic post about 2.1 from me ever again. I promise you that.

For what it's worth, just received by e-mail from VZW in response to question about when 2.1 will be released for the Droid Eris:

Dear.....:

Verizon Wireless has yet to obtain any credible feedback from Google, regarding the release of a 2.1 device firmware for the HTC DROID Eris ADR6200 Smartphones. Once available, the OS release will be automatically delivered to your handset for download and installation.

Based on the lack of available feedback, we are unable to advise of any projected time frame for any such release, as it may cause an unmet expectation.

The Droid operating system is proprietary software by Google. Thus, Google determines when any related updates will be available to which Droid operated Smartphones, and therefore cannot predict and or indicate when any such updates will be available on the HTC DROID Eris ADR6200 Smartphones. I apologize for any related inconvenience.

I have however, forwarded your concern to our Marketing Department for review, in hopes of expediting the 2.1 release for Verizon Wireless customers.

We appreciate you taking the time to contact us, and thank you for choosing Verizon Wireless. Should you have any questions or concerns about a Verizon Wireless offered product/service, please send a new e-mail from our website [www.verizonwireless.com/contactus] and include either the last four (4) digits of your Social Security Number or account password when submitting your inquiry for verification purposes.

Sincerely,

Stan
