Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Status
Not open for further replies.
Hey gang,

I posted in the Incredible "official thread" asking this question, but no replies, so I thought I would check in this thread.

Does anyone have any arguments for why a person would go with the Verizon Incredible versus the Sprint EVO?

The 2 and only 2 reasons I could come up with were:
1. Earlier launch and release date by 6 to 8 weeks depending on the days current rumor.

2. A preference to go with Verizon service/coverage over Sprint. I think most would agree that Verizon is either the best network or one of the best.

Outside of that, I can't think of anything the Incredible outshines the EVO on, and quite the opposite, the EVO seems to have as good or better specs than the Incredible on every aspect.

Any thoughts? I'm up for a new every 2 with Verizon next month and I'm trying to decide whether to go with the Incredible or make the switch to Sprint in June when the EVO launches.

Hi guys, long time no see, i have been going like a madman at school, we've had tennis matches the past few nights to make up for all the flooding around here

to clear up a few things: that price of $10 or $20 is exactly what i said a few weeks back. That price is not the cost of 4G but to use the device as a mobile hotspot

the phone will be right in that price window i gave too, anywhere between $200 and $250. I can't wait for June 13th when this bad boy is being released! It's a little later than i have been told, and i haven't talked to my source Dan in a while either but im going to leave him a message tonight asking about the OS. I have a good feeling about this one!

Hope that helped, i should be around for the next few days so keep your questions coming =]

andddlay, look at this video. At about the 3:00 minute mark you see the HTC rep having a little trouble releasing the kickstand.

Thank you for finding the video :) However, no offence, of course, I kinda disagree with your statement stating that it snaps into place. I think the rep just tipped the edge with his fingernail and didn't get 'ahold' of it.

and no offense to those speaking on that kickstand... PLEASE GET OVER IT lol... it's not going to be an issue b/c I'm sure HTC has tried it out before adding it to such a device like the htc evo...im sure they wouldn't want to add something to a device of that magnitude for it to fail plus htc and sprint both must have approved it for good reason! plus the htc imagio on Verizon has and i've never not for once heard any issues about it...and if issues existed you bet your bottom dollar that Engadgetmobile.com would've been all over it in a hot flash!! :D;)
And MrViZZiATO, this is just a conversation...I'm not getting over it as I'm simply just observing and discussing a fine detail of the kickstand. This is not going to change my set-mind to purchase this device. I'm sure they have tested it extensively, but it was a simple question that I was curious about.

Also, I posted a few days ago asking a few questions, and I don't believe I saw an answer to them:

I know of matte on black finishes, but can they also come in white? I'm probably going to get the white one if available.

Also, I'm sceptical when it comes to rooting devices. All I have done with my Pre is add patches. Is there a big risk rooting them? I don't want my warranty to wear off. Regarding this, if I do root and the phone bricks and if I pay for insurance, would they replace the device?

Thank you all so much :D

Thanks, Jackson!

So, based on all the posts I read, you said June 21 (or so, can't remember exact date) would mean 2.5, correct? Would June 13 symbolize Android 2.5, since it's only 8 days before?

Also, you had mentioned in an earlier post that bigger corporations would get "first dibs" or "first crack" at getting the phone. Does that mean that they'll sell to business clients prior to the "general" release?

On a side note, I mentioned it in my first post, but weren't you also the one giving us all the good "inside info" a couple years back about the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro release (including specs, pricing, etc.)? Just curious because I don't remember your username, but I do remember your real name.

Thanks in Advance

haha yepp that was me. I worked at a sprint store throughout High school, so i got my way around if u catch my drift haha. I had to get a new user name though because some people were sending some nasty emails and stuff, before it was proven i was right. It always happens this way, thats why i left sprint forumes and came back here. Bill kinda convced me haha (thanks bill)

it should be, i sent a message over to my friends about it. Otherwise the phone won't really work the way it should, and Sprint doesnt want that!

Ill keep ya posted

LOL...Nice. That's what I thought. Good to have you back. I know that I believed in what you were saying. You had too much information to be bs'ing.

btw, what about the big corporation question. Any idea on how that'll work?

I'm in a similar position to you. I'm eligible right now for an upgrade with Verizon. Until the EVO made a big splash, I was going to get a Nexus One when Verizon got. Now I've pretty much decided I'm going to drop Verizon and get an EVO in June. As far as the Incredible question, I think the only thing you might have missed is the AMOLED screen. There appear to be pros and cons for both, but I'm getting the EVO regardless.

I don't know if he had trouble... it looked more like he wasn't paying attention.... trying to pop it open blindly while answering questions...

I wanna say on a video or an article that I saw that they said the kickstand was magnetized. Don't quote me on that though ( I could have been dreaming) lol. If I find it I will be sure to post it though.

Yea this is what I hate about apple an there fan boys!!! They get new features that have been around for ages on all my windows mobile phones and now on every android phone...and they think it revolutionary.... excuse me while I go throw up lol:eek: and the worst part is how all these apple fans believe in it (shaking my head!!!)

andddlay dont mind mrvizziato he seems to be one of those htc is almighty does no wrong fanboys

also a quick question to anyone who would know.. being that 4G is not currently supported in android 2.1 does that mean that all the apps in the marketplace would only support 3G and have to be tweaked so to speak to perform on the Wimax? or does that have nothing to do with the app and only the os?

IMO go for the EVO. 4.3" display, 4G Network, and Sprint plans are ~30% cheaper. also, Sprint offers "New Every 1" for Premier customers.

IMO you'll feel the 4G difference with all apps where network speed is a factor. i'm stating what i thought was obvious.

June 13? painful.

It may have been discussed in this thread already, so I apologize in advance if it already has and I missed it when reading through, but I saw in one of the videos on youtube that the EVO only goes into landscape mode for video playback, picture and I believe messaging (text/email).

Can anyone confirm?

That's kinda weird to me, considering the way they made the kickstand. If I set the phone on my desktop and I want to reply to a text that came in, I have to look that the phone sideways in order to get to the text messaging screen? Excuse my ignorance (since I've never had Android) if it's easy to navigate in Android.

that's what the guy in the video said. but perhaps there will be an OS upgrade or an App/Hack that will solve that riddle. either way, i wouldn't worry about it.

as far as the whole corporation thing goes i have no idea how thats going to work. My guy Dan simply told be that Government followed by large coorporations would be able to get their hands on one first. Seeing that you will be able to videoconference i think thats the biggest reason. Other than that i know no details. It shouldn't affect you buying one at your local store though. I think this will be straight thru sprint, so good for them

Reason I ask is I'm wondering if I'll be able to get the phone, prior to it being offered in general retail. I work for a VERY large corporation that actually does some business with all the major carriers.

Sense does not do landscape mode as far as I know - but apps you go into obviously can.

There ARE hacks out there to make sense go into landscape mode:
Landscape HTC Sense Show From HD2 Test ROM

Edit: That's for the HD2 which is windows mobile, but I'm sure the same can be done in Android.

I hope they do have a hack that can convert it to do so. With the way the kickstand is designed, I can just see this getting on my nerves during the day, while I'm at work. Either that, or maybe the kickstand will allow for the phone to sit in portrait.
