I want to root my virgin HTC EVO V 4g, but i see so much talk about
ROMS / RADIOS / ETC im so confused and have no clue what to do.

I just wanted to root so i can turn off the camera shutter noise.
But i see theirs a lot more you could do and improve.

Will i lose my contacts? IF so how do i back these up and my apps

to simply root, you would need to unlock your device... i dont quite remember if you will lose any data but those should be backed up to your google account alrready... if not, i highely recommend you have them there...
this thread will point you in the right starting direction:

ok i finished doing all the rooting steps :)

great...

1 download this file and put it on your sdcard
2 download root browser/root browser lite from the play store and use it to
navigate to the system folder
3 then open the app folder
4 delete the file named htccamera.apk
5 now go to your sdcard and copy the file you downloaded
6 paste it into the app folder
7 long press the file you pasted and select 'permissions'

in the first row, the first two boxes should be checked
in the second row, the first box should be checked
in the third row, the first box should be checked

8 apply and exit the app
9 now reboot and there should be no shutter sound

did you unzip the rom when you put it on your sdcard? it should be a .zip file and not a folder

crap... i did
Soo how do i go about putting the file back in as a zip without starting over.
because the drive isnt showing up because its probably in charge mode

just turn off your phone, pull out your sdcard
redownload the file
put it on your sdcard
boot into bootloader ---> hold down the volume down button and tap the power button... keep holding volume down until you see a white screen with lots of text...

scroll to 'reboot recovery' using volume buttons to go up and down
use the power button to confirm selection
after you get into recovery, choose to 'install zip from sdcard'

I FINISHED!! WOOOOOOO
& thank god that annoying startup music / sound is gone!!

Hey, how can i restore my contacts & apps? Someone said it auto backs up
to my google account or something.

nonono... i sugested you backup your contacts to you google account... if you didn't do it, damn...
if you did, just sign in with the google account you associated your phone 2 and open contacts... i think clicking the menu button in the app presents an import option

in root browser, navigate to system/app and thing long press your finger on the htccamera.apk label... a list of options should show up... choose delete...

then download the file i showed you and move it to your sdcard...
open root browser again and navigate to the file you just placed on your sdcard...
long press it and select copy...

paste it into the system/app folder

follow the rest of my guide
