Help Black screen after answer call on nexus 4

Does this happen before or after you have put the phone to your face? In other words, is the proximity sensor a suspect?

Thanks for answering
Just tried again from another mobile. It is mainly after I put the phone to my face
I am unable to stop the call after I have answered it as cannot see the screen
Pressing the on and off button shows the screen very faint But it goes again:thinking:

i had the same problem, it is because there is a sensor on the top left corner if u notice, if u pull the phone down like u are on speaker phone so that nothin is close to the sensor the screen will pop back on, i thought my phone was messed up too haha. but its actually just a cool battery saving feature

Not just for battery, it's mainly to avoid touchscreen inputs with your cheek.

What happens when you hit the power button when you finish the call? This should switch the screen on.

Pressing the on and off button shows the screen very faint But it goes again
Then seems to reconsider and the screen comes on
But dont want to be hanging on
Where is the sensor then?
All new to me Had a HTC before
Only prob with that was sometimes it would not let me drag the screen down to answer
Now I can answer but not stop lol

I think you're phone may have a problem with the proximity sensor. This sensor is located very close from the earpiece, but it is not easy no notice. You should contact google for warranty.

Where is that? Is that a good idea then?

I found this but still having problems

You never said whether you had a screen protector, which seems to be the common source of this problem in the XDA thread. Basically, it comes down to this, in my mind at least. If the proximity sensor (essentially a light sensitive sensor) isn't being occluded, you have a defective unit and should return it for warranty repair. Work arounds are going to get old really fast. :)

No screen protector.

I have a similar problem, there is definitely something weird with this phone and how the proximity sensor works compared to all of my past phones, I have not found a pattern because I tend to try to ignore these things because they frustrate me. I do not have a screen protector.

I love the phone (not as much as my nexus 7 though, bought it because of that)

Today it has been behaving so touch wood.

I am soooo glad to see that I am not the only one having this problem. My husband and I have the same phone and his it not having the problem at all. Every time I make a call the screen will go black and there is no way to get it back on again. I am constantly having to turn the phone off and wait to have it reboot with every call ;( My husband was trying to tell me that I had to hold it a certain way, but I have tried everything short of jumping on one leg to try and get it to work.
