I'm using the team DIRT AOKP ROM with their kernel and when I receive SMS or MMS the LED stays a constant green but you can see the red LED flashing while the green still remains constant. the weird part is when the battery gets below 15% the LED does the usual red flash just like normal. It should be noted that I am using Handcent SMS and I have tried to change the setting in both the Handcent app and using the ROM settings for the LED. I've tried to google my problem and I've looked through the 500 pages on the DIRT AOKP thread over at xda and I can't see anyone with a similar issue...seems like people would be all over it so IDK if it's just me or what?

Go under the led settings and change the default color to red and it will flash like normal. Down side is that all of your notifications will flash red.

Speaking of notifications on AOKP, does anyone know how to shut off the AOKP notifications for email/text and just use the stock version?

I know I can shut off notification for stock sms/gmail, etc, but not into the AOKP style for them. I thought I saw it somewhere in that long XDA thread or on AOKP's website, but I've been searching for a while with no luck.

Meh....I get pretty bad battery no matter what ROM I'm on. I use the phone very heavily though I guess.
I hear you, try juicedefender it works for me, especially aggressive on low battery in case of emergencies.

Turning it to red does work, and I like red so it's all right, how do you turn off the LED when there's low battery anyway?

I set it on blue for the heck of it I know it only goes to red (the old t-mobile sidekick days when it'd glow purple sometimes too if I remember correctly :p)

Yeah, I thought LightFLow would fix it but it just did the same thing.

All you have to do is go System settings>ROM Control>LED>Click on the flashing LED>Change the color to red that simple. ;)
