carrier unlock and GSM

Have a new RAZR M and am really loving it so far. When I picked it up I asked the sales guy if he would unlock it. He said it is already unlocked and can take sim cards from other carriers. Anyone know if this is true? Specifically, I'm wondering if the phone would work with an ATT sim from a pre-paid Gophone.

It won't work on the AT&T network.

CDMA is different than GSM
if the razr was a world phone it might have worked(i think i read that somewhere) but you won't even get the razr m to work on sprint because they use different cdma bands. unless it is included in this phone can someone let me know?

In Settings->Network Mode, my RAZR M has settings for LTE/CDMA and GSM/UMTS. As well as something called "Global", which I guess means everything.

A lot of people have been successful at getting Verizon world phones to connect to AT&T or T-Mobile voice/text, but data has been a whole different obstacle. Last I knew, Verizon was putting security in the radio files that prevent it from connecting to US gsm data services, but not to other countries'. Of course with the encrypted bootloader, changing radio files becomes impossible. If you bought the Dev Razr M, then there would be more options for hacking, but I don't know if it would be successful.

Wow, sorry I didn't see this thread earlier. Go to this thread here and it will solve everyone's problems and desires in this thread for GSM unlock on the Razr:

The guy who posted this has been doing this kind of thing for a long long long long long time. Just pay attention to all the steps and follow them to the "T" and you will be good to go. I haven't done it because where I live, AT&T and T-Mobile does not work.

I have a VZW RAZR M that I have set up for my daughter on NET10 using AT&T. It works very well with HSPA data, voice , texting & MMS. I used the instructions linked to above. The instructions are very straightforward, easy to follow, and include screen shots of the procedure. You have to follow them exactly or it will not work.

Since I have a legacy plan that only allows 5 lines, two of which still have unlimited data with the $20 off promotion, I did not want to change plans. Even though I pay $45/month for her line on NET10 it is still cheaper than changing plans with VZW to add the additional phone.

I have been with big red so long and have been so happy with their coverage that I have big fat blinders on my eyes with a big red "V" on the inside and no longer care about the price of others.

I'm saying the method works and that I am using the phone on AT&T GSM Net10. If I added a sixth line to my VZW account I would have to change plans and loose the two lines of unlimited data which is just not gonna happen...

Verizion is lying to you. When they sign you up on a contract and give you a new phone it is locked. The agreement is between Motorola & Verizion so they think they can keep you locked in to their contract. This comes from personal experience.
