HELP! battery went from 50% to 0% overnight while off.

I went to bed last night with around 50% battery on the N10. I turned it off so that I'd have sufficient battery today.

I wake up and try to turn it on and it won't do anything. I plug in to charge it and it showing 0% power. Included is a screenshot of my battery in settings. It shows I was using the device for about 7hrs 40min, with around 50% battery life left.

I could see losing a couple percents from sitting overnight, but not 50%.

I'm freaking out! What could have happened?

Should I exchange the device for a new one?

Please help, any response is appreciated

Chris

From the first image - were your wireless radios on when you were sleeping? When you say you put the N10 off, I assume you mean you did not turn it off completely, right? Nevertheless, there eithe rmust have been some activity going on which ate your battery or there is something wrong with your battery.

Edit: Can you see what apps were on when you were sleeping, if any?

That's pretty strange. Definitely not normal to be losing battery like that with the power off. Maybe just a fluke. If it was me I'd see if it does the same thing after tonight and if so I'd be calling Google.

So it was at 50% after almost 8 hours use?

I'll do what you have suggested. It's charging now.
If I called Google what would I say? I got it at Walmart, can/should i just exchange there? I love the device, im just worried about the battery.

Yes 50% after being on all day/using it most of the day.

Is this normal?

I'll admit I had a couple drinks last night, but im 99% sure I turned it off. I know I had to have because otherwise it wouldn't say just 8 hrs. It would be 8hrs +the time it was sitting there while I was sleeping, right?

Also, you can see from the screen shot that it just straight dropped off. If there were background apps running, I would consider it my fault 100%. If it went from 50 percent to 47 percent overnight I wouldn't even have to posted here. It's the fact that 50 percent of battery life just disappeared out of nowhere.

It just got weirder. Included are TWO screenshots of my battery settings. Now the battery has jumped up to 48%, almost where it should have been. Do you guys sees the massive spike going on there on the right side?

Its only been charging for a few hours max. It usually seems to charge in about 6-8 hrs. You can see the red line in the bottom right where it appeared to be charging normally. Then outta nowhere, BOOM, 48%. I knew it had sufficient juice....... And now it recognizes it

Its almost as if it was reading the battery power wrong, and now it reading it correctly. Like there was juice in the battery but it didn't know out was there.

Please view both screenshots. The 2nd is from 5 min ago, and you can seed exactly what I was talking about.

So I believe this proves I indeed did turn it off last night. So weird.

Thank you to all who replied and are trying to help. I hope it's back to normal, but we'll see.

Still worried. this thing is brand new!

Chris

The battery life has almost seemed to jump back to where I thought I left it last night. Which is a small relief, because I knew it had juice, and now it recognizes it.

I'm trying to be clear about my situation and what's going on so I hope I'm making sense. I'm a little flustered as you guys can tell!

Not sure what to make of this.

Currently I'm typing this message from my N10 not sure if I should turn it off and let it charge fully. What would you guys do?

I'm thinking of charging to 100%, using it for the night ,shutting down completely and seeing if the battery is where it should be at tomorrow.

Thx again for helping guys, this is why I love android forums.

Very odd! Personally, I'd do two things. First, I'd confirm that I can exchange it without any loss of money and hopefully of time. Second, I'd use it normally for the rest of the day and set out to charge - on sleep not completely shut off - over the night. The next day, I'd shut down the tab completely - reboot, that is - then check for anomalies. If none, then with a short prayer of thanks, I'd continue using it normally. If there are anomalies, i 'd exchange it. The critical thing for me is to have confidence in my device.

I'm wondering if it's reading the battery left correctly. 50% left after 8 hours use seems like a lot. If it keeps acting screwy I think I would try a factory reset first before trying to return. I'm not 100% sure but I think Walmart's return period is 15 days. If that's the case and you've had it longer then you would probably have to send it to Samsung for repair.

So you think the battery should be lower than 50%? I always me keep my brightness low, and was mostly web browsing , Facebook and searching for apps. I thought 50% seemed reasonable. It seemed accurate but I'm not sure, as its a new device. On my phone I always monitor my battery very carefully, almost obsessive. Lol.

I got it for Xmas, and it was purchased from Walmarts website a few days before. Its been about 11-13 days. I doubt ill get to the bottom of the problem before 15 days as I really need to test it. Thx for input! Smart idea. Sending to Samsung would be terrible.

How do I do a factory reset again?

Hoping it was a fluke!

If all you were doing is browsing 50% may be normal. I would think you would lose about 10% an hour but I do a lot of streaming so its hard for me to say for sure. To reset you go to settings and backup & reset.

Thx atmazzz & everyone. Its fully charged and now I'm gong to use it for the rest of the night , turn it off when I go to bed, and hope my battery level is correct in the morning. If its faltering within the next week, ill do a factory reset.

I'm not sure what to think about all this! I just hope its a fluke!

Does this sound like a decent plan?

Well, so did it work?

I know, right?? Inquiring minds want to know!

hello all, OP here:

sorry to keep you in suspense~

I wasn't sure if anyone was still viewing this!

Everything seems to be fine. I have fully charged and drained my N10 in the past few days, and inbetween (sometimes overnight), I've been shutting down and restarting later to make sure the battery level is where it should be.

For example 2 nights ago, I went to bed with 59%, turned off, and woke up with 59%. so that's what id expect and hope. last night, I went to bed with about 10-15%, and woke up with the same (so that is slightly comforting).

Although to be honest, im still thinking, "WHY MEE!!!!????!?!?!". I hope it was just a glitch or a fluke, and to those of you who have been following this, you know that the next day after I lost over 50% battery while off, it DID recognize the charge and come back to around 50%. (again slightly comforting because I KNEW that I had around 50% juice in there...)

a few of you recommended a factory reset which I have NOT done, only because I wanted to see if I could replicate the original problem by using, charging, turning off/on, to try to see if anything would happen. so far, nothing out of the ordinary. Im quite pleased with the battery life (I mostly use it for web browsing, facebook, news apps, and google music etc. not doing much Netflix streaming or things that would drain the battery excessively.

currently, I just drained the battery to 0% (until it shut itself off) and I will charge while its off (charges faster) right now. I'll use it tonight, and keep track of the battery life before I go to bed, then turn it off, and see if the battery is the same (or very close) to the level which I previously left it at, and see what its at the morning.

ive got a pretty decent feeling that its (battery and device) okay... only because my battery lasts quite well for me and I haven't yet been able to replicate the problem, as well as the device being awesome....haha.

again, ill try to report back my findings/tests because it seems a few of you are wondering!

Again, thanks for the help/input that all of you gave. MUCH appreciated. helped to calm me down! along with a few drinks ;)

ps- am I being too optimistic? JW

This has happened to me a few times. I just reboot and it shows 100% after reboot. thought it might be doing that because it sits in a cooler room then the rest of the house.

Thanks for your post, glad I'm not the only one. I thought that it might be my cold room which is colder than the rest, but I've had a space heater in my room for 3 weeks.

Does this worry you? I haven't replicated the problem in quote a few charges so I'm not worried.
