Root JB Or Cm For S-on

I Was wondering if maybe there was anyway to have a JB Or Cm rom on an s-on htc evo v 4g with hboot 1.47 unlocked with htcdev if thats not possible is there a link to ALL the roms i can install with 4ext on my current settings?

Nope, a new hboot is required and that can only be achieved through s-off.

There is no "link" to all the roms you can use but anything sense based should work fine.

thats way to much to do. i have to downgrade my mainver flash a ruu go back to the stock rom relock my bootloader and all kinds of stuff. and i dont even know what most of that stuff is. AHHH. this is all just to much.
You can try flashing one of JMZ's stock ROM's or a "stockish" ROM like Harmonia and go straight to the wire trick. You won't be able to get support from the unlimited.io (JuopunutBear) staff if you go that route and have problems, but a lot of people have been successful doing it that way. It's probably worth a try.

i just cant do things like this without a tutorial. because now that i read all that about locking the bootloader again. it worries me ill make a mistake. and then my phone will blow up.
Then you should stay with the ICS Sense based ROM's that work with S-ON and the stock bootloader.

Nobody is trying to push you outside your comfort zone. ;)

But why cant i get jb without having s-off and a certain hboot. i dont understamd that.

Because JB roms require a certain hboot to run and the only way to change it is to go s-off. Period. There's no other way to explain it, I'm sorry.

Going s-off is not hard and there's alot of help here and unlimited.io's site and irc. But you have to have patience.

So if you don't want to go s-off, I would do as ramjet73 said and stay with ICS sense based roms.

This thread has me scratching my head. Coming from an OG EVO, I thought you needed S-off in order to flash ROMs. From the tone of this thread, it sounds like people are flashing ROMs with S-ON. Is that right?

Have they made it easier for people to switch ROMs while restricting superuser access?

You can flash without being s-off. You need to be rooted and unlock your bootloader. But sure, you can flash other roms. Just have to know which ones work with your hboot because with s-on, you can't change it.

To answer that question, after some pressure from the community HTC provided a bootloader unlock process at htcdev.com which allows you to root but you stay S-ON. There are still a lot of restrictions that S-OFF will eliminate as described in this post.

HTC is certainly a pain compared to my intercept days when I rooted with a apk.file. no worrying about hboots and s-on..

I think the triumph was the easiest thing ever...didn't even have to root for a custom recovery...just go into I THINK download mode, copy a recovery.img to the phone...bam. Done. LIterally 30 seconds and done.

Last time i rooted a triumph, b_randon14 had an easy way with no cables or a pc, just with terminal emulator from the google play store, and typing sudo.... and 2 other codes reboot phone and that's it :D

This just shows my lack of knowledge. For me, i just follow the instructions...rather than figure out exactly what's happening. With my EVO, rooting, and getting S-off was basically the same thing. I didn't distinguish it as different things, as I assumed S-off was needed to flash roms and install a custom recovery.

So gaining root access and having s-off are two different things wtih different meanings...interesting... I had just assumed that we rooted to install custom recovery and gain S-off status which was required for a flash...I have much to learn.
