Just upgraded to Desire, and it's an amazing phone, but i have a very annoying problem.

I'm on T-mobile UK and when ever Tmobile send me a text (i.e. to say my balance of mins etc) my phone associates the number with a facebook contact on mine, i.e. it thinks my friend has sent me the message.

the strangest thing is my facebook friend is only a facebook friend, I dont even have his mobile number in my phone, and ever stranger his mobile number is not listed on his profile page.

so i am really stuck as to how this has happened or how to resolve.

I've tried unlinking him/deleting him from facebook and factory reset on the phone (twice!).

any suggestions would be very welcome.

Same! In fact, this is causing other problems for me because sometimes I can't change their number from the one on their Facebook profiles.

Even if I've merged more details with the contact, I sometimes can't choose to change their primary number from the Facebook one which makes it annoying trying to call them! Any suggestion?

thanks for all comments about turning off facebook sync, but surely that will mean my contacts are not sync'd and I will loose one of the functions that the Desire is good for -> having all contacts linked and in one place?

I think this is massively annoying and really should be something that HTC should sort out!

anyone else go any suggestions to resolve without loosing facebook sync ability?

cant you just un-link the contact from facebook that is coming up as tmobie? and then re-create that contact as a normal sim contact...

Trouble is that, for me anyway, the contact only exists because of facebook, I don't have them as a regular contact. Also when it first happened, i just deleted the facebook friend to try to fix it and it has just changed to another friend, so possible that would happen.

I've had this same problem too. Don't know how to fix it. Has anyone tried saving the number to see if that helps. I get messages from RBS from the same number and on my old phone it used to show as 'no contact'. I just wondered if I save the number as a contact called 'RBS' the next time they send me a message will it show as that instead.
I haven't tried this yet. Anyone think its worth a go?

I can confirm this issue.

I get the exact same problem. The problem occurs when you have a facebook friend for which you have no phone record and which have written text instead of a phone number in his facebook contact information phone info and you receive a text message (sms) from a phone number that you do not have in your phone contact list.

The seems to be no real solution for now, but one of the following:

  • Disable facebook sync in your phone
  • Remove facebook friends which does not supply a valid phone number
  • Create a phone contact for those facebook friends which do not supply a valid phone number.

The last solution seems to be the best one if you don't have too many friends with an invalid phone number entry. I only have one so creating a phonebook entry for him fixed the problem :)

I had this same problem, but not for a Facebook contact - it was for an Outlook one which I had synced over to my Desire. The contact was the very first one in my list (started with A) and although it was linked to a FB contact, that FB one didn't have a mobile number listed (not even saying ask me etc). The Outlook contact didn't have a telephone number either, just an email address.

All I did in to fix it was delete the Outlook contact, resync, create a new Outlook contact (with exactly the same name and details) and sync again. I did have some concerns it might just jump to the 2nd Outlook contact but it didn't - all texts from T-mobile now show up correctly.

In addition and thanks to bakleths post, I had a problem in that whenever I received texts from T mobile and my bank, it came up as a friends name in my contacts list.
After checking my friends details again, I noticed I had a secondary email in a phone field. So when it should have been expecting numbers it was getting text in email format.
After deleting the secondary email and field ('other' in this case), all my erroneously named texts fixed themselves!

Hope this helps someone.
