Help Is this really a phone?

I have 2 questions regarding using the phone that are not addressed in the user manual and I am hoping someone can help me.

One is how to end a call. I know I need to press the red End Call icon. But when I am talking on the phone the screen goes black. So first I have to
1)turn the phone (screen) back on using the side mechanical button,
2)then I have to look at the phone and press the End Call icon.
This seems complicated to me? Is this really what I have to do to simply hang up the phone? Are Iphones like this?

The other issue is having to unlock my phone in order to make a phone call. When I unlock my phone I get routed to whereever I was before I last closed the phone. So I first have to press the homepage button, go to the homepage and then press the green Phone icon, and then press the keypad icon. So let me get this straight (LOL), to make a phone call I must:

1)press the side mechanical button on
2)unlock the screen
3)press the mechanical home button
4)press the green Phone icon
5)press the keypad icon (or select contact)
6)FINALLY, make the call!

are iphones like this? wow, or am I missing something huge? I just can't believe it takes so many steps....

The screen goes black so you don't end up hitting buttons while it's up to your ear. When you want to end a call just take the phone away from your ear and the screen should light up and allow you to end the call.
You can make a phone call by swiping upwards on the phone icon on the lock screen and that will open the dial screen.

When you take the phone away from your face, the screen should turn back on. From there you can hit the End Call button.

Before I lock the screen from last use, I close all the apps. Tap the home button to go to the main scree then hold the mechanical home button for 2 seconds then select Remove all. Next time you unlock the phone you can go to the phone or contact icon to make your call.

Yes you have to go through a similar process on iPhones as well.

ok thank you.

I have been using speaker phone because the earpiece is broken (awaiting another phone from Rogers--- although I just discovered that it is not broken). So I haven't been holding the phone up to my ear. You are right, if I hold it up to my ear, then it turns back on automatically. Thank you.

If the screen is locked and I swipe towards the green phone icon, I still just get sent to where the phone was when I was last using it. I guess it would be a good idea to close all apps before closing the phone but I like the idea of stay in my email- I use email more than the phone. I will look into getting that homescreen app that can activate the phone from the lock screen thanx.

Meanwhile, I just made a really embarassing discovery concerning my earpiece volume!! I will post that in my earpiece thread.

If anyone knows of some sort of app that when I unlock the phone in a certian way, it will bring me directly to the phone, I would really appreciate that. The "swipe towards the green phone icon" would be perfect, except it does not work on my phone.

thank you!

Settings -> Lock Screen -> Lock Screen Options -> Shortcuts On

That should put the phone icon on your lock screen. It doesn't?

EDIT: nevermind. I somehow missed the last 5 posts before I posted. :p

Not all of the time if the OP is talking to someone on a landline.

If it is an incoming call the call will end if they hang up. If you initiated the call then you need to end the call manually for it to end right then. This is usually the case even with 2 landlines, or at least used to be.

I remember that you could tie up someone's phone indefinitely (or until the switchboard cancelled it) if you knew a trick to get free calls from phone boxes, dialled them and left the phone box off the hook.

Lock screen shortcuts, mentioned above, are great. I have phone, camera, internet and calculator.

For a first time Smartphone user I highly recommend going to youtube and searching on Note 2 tips and tricks. Cursed4Eva does some very in depth reviews/tutorials on Samsung phones.
