Nexus 7 or Samsung Galaxy 7?

I think those are the names of them. I have about $200 for a tablet. I like the nexus, but is the lack of an expansion slot a deal breaker? the Samsung is getting mixed reviews with it's either the best thing ever or it's a breakable piece of garbage. I was originally looking at the Fire, but read it has limited capabilities. Opinions? Thanks!!!

I purposely bought a (used) 4g 7.0 plus over the nexus for several reasons-
-data enabled (moot, now)
-hdmi/mhl capability
-SD card
-front camera, though mine isn't that great

Hdmi was the big one, really. I do dislike the proprietary charger, though. :D

Well, as you said, data enabled is moot so I'll skip over that.
HDMI/MHL: nexus loses there. No way to argue that.
SD card:Nexus devices haven't had sd card slots for a while, but this impact can be greatly reduced by rooting the tablet, an otg usb cable, and a usb thumb drive. It's not perfect because you won't be able to charge the device while you use it, but it's better than nothing.
Front camera: The nexus has a front facing camera, but it doesn't have a rear facing camera. Every user will be different, but I consider this to be a small negative compared to all the positives. Positives such as a huge developer community, virtually unbrickable because it's a nexus, and always being kept up to date software wise.

oh, the samsung has HDMI and the nexus doesn't? that might be a deal breaker. Hmmm. Why is this so hard? why can't they make a $200 tablet with a front camera, sd slot, hdmi, standard charger, and high functionality? Gosh, it's not like i'm asking for everything! LOL ;)

If you want a quality featured filled tablet, you will need to pay for it. These "budget" tablets will always have to make sacrifices in order to keep the cost low. As it is, there's no markup on the Nexus 7. This means you are basically paying for the hardware and Google/ASUS makes no profit on it.

thanks, Jhawk. i was being sarcastic, i know my price tag is small, so i get limited features. just wishing :) so rooting, this scares me. i can potentially break the thing pretty bad rooted, right? knowing just enough to be a problem sometimes, lol.
so the only plus on the samsung side if nexus is rooted is hdmi? hmmm. not sure now. i was sold on the nexus but i was really hoping for an hdmi. i guess it's nto completely necessary if i'm goign to get better life out of the thing.

Sorry, sarcasm isn't always conveyed in text easily. Out of all the device out there, nexus devices are the EASIEST to root and rom. No exploits and specialized methods. There is even a toolkit that works on all nexus devices that will more or less do it for you. Honestly, the most difficult part of rooting this device is installing the drivers. The only way to date that I've seen someone truly brick it without a chance of fixing it is when they manually deleted their bootloader. Plus there's a lot of great devs and helpful people in that forum to help you out if you have problems.

Which Tab 2 comes with hdmi the 4g model? Mine doesn't have it.

shelliewnj, would I trade mine for a N7, of course I would for the better specs. Nothing against the Tab 2 either. As mention, the tab seems to have less quality assurance issues then the N7, at least with the earlier models. Other then that, I don't have any regrets. I'm not into gaming and rooting, so I can deal with what I have.

I'm leaning towards the nexus because of the wonderful reviews it's getting. but I really wanted that HDMI slot. I'm not so worried about the storage - maybe a little worried. but really the hdmi is what's keeping me from not purchasing anything as of yet... i feel dumb, like this isn't a life decision here. but it is the last time i am going to be able to make a tablet purchase for a long time, so i want it to be right :) i don't want buyer's remorse, i guess.
