So i previously saw a thread or 2, talking about the unlocking of the gs3 so that it could be used on GSM networks,
my question is, how good is this unlock? will it be lacking any features? or will it be FULLY functional on any given US GSM network,
Has anybody done this themselves?
please share your experiences and your knowledge on the subject,
thanks

All s3's have a gsm chip

thanks guys. i guess i need to do a little more research. i didnt know the s3 was a world phone :( sorry for that. my sincere apologies!

EDIT: how does that work? does it have a seprate slot from the 4g sim for a gsm sim or do you just switch out the 4g sim for the gsm? and does it have hspa? or just lte?

No worries that was very rude what that guy posted(if you saw it. Before it got edited)
Same slot for both. On the guide it says you only get edge but someone on the thread said they put a tmobile sim in & got 3G HSPA

what do you mean working? whats wrong with it?

as stated above we have tried getting global/GSM mode working to no avail.

what i meant with 'getting it to work' was to actually getting the phone to successfully work(settings sticking). Since someone on that thread claimed they were limited to working on this since they didnt have an s3 in hand, i asked if it would help for them to have a metro s3 to play with since i have the phone just laying around.

* Please note that due to different hardware, US Qualcomm based GS3 (SGH-T999, SCH-I535, SCH-R530, SPH-L710, SGH-I747...) are currently not supported. Don't leave bad feedback, I can't do much without one of these phones in my hands !

thats what i am saying, its not even a matte rof settings not sticking, i have yet to even get them to work at all. sticking would imply they stay after a reboot, they enever work in teh first place

He does, he's also the main dev over in the metro s3 forum

indeed thanks to the wonderful community i have one to play and work on :)
Good to hear that, i thought that it was you that posted that not having the phone was delaying you.
being a dev i want to thank you for your work, its for people like you that android is truly superior to apple and any other OS at the moment, please let me know if you're able to get 'that' working.

doubt it, i spent a good couple hours as it would increase the value of the device, but i couldnt get it. so i hung up my hat im instead going to work on things that actually further the device rather than wild goose chases. ive yet to hear of a single person being able to do it on the metro version. if the esn and iccid is good on that sgs3 your friend has then he could sell it at a decent price. i know a few people looking to pick one up

sad to hear that, cause from what it seems if there was anyone that could make that happen it would be you, and if youre the top dev for the metro s3 right now as someone stated, then i highly doubt youll find someone who will do it. anywho, phone has a bad ESN, in pristine condition though, i know what the options are, a flash with a metro feature phone but then no 4G, or to buy a broken metro s3 not worth fixing just to use its ESN, but that hasnt yet been decided. it would be ideal to get it on GSM since he has at&t.
I do however, know someone selling a brand new in the box never used metro s3, $420 shipped to the lower 48

ah yea, sucks that its bad esn. while i am someone who is working on teh sgs3 i am by no means the end all be all that everyone talks about. there is plenty of stuff i still do not know and for all intents and purposes this may still work, i just couldnt get it for the life of me.

if i wasnt saving up to buy my wife a sgs3 then id offer to pick up the bad one from your hands, i have one to work on but had quite the scare yesterday in risking bricking it. perhaps you might find someone willing to suffer on 3g or want it as a dev device.
