how do you setup a rooted phone? aka, what do you do with a phone immediately after you root it?

id like to start by saying that i do not need the classic "if you dont know what youre doing, dont bother" root lecture. im looking for someone to inform me, not brush me off to feed their tech-ego. people tend to get really snotty when it comes to rooting, and dealing with people who do not know as much as they do on the topic. we all have the right to learn and obtain information.

i am posting this because i would like to understand more about rooting. feel free to verbal diahrrea and show off your knowledge in a helpful way! i have the following questions:

-Does it speed your phone up?
-Does it cause problems that normally would not occur using stock rom?
-Does it REQUIRE extensive knowledge of using command prompts and things of that nature? If so, are their tutorials and guides and sites you can refer to online to help you with this stuff?
-Once you root your phone, literally immediately after, what is the next step? "Flash" a rom, what does that do? And then what? And so on......

These questions may sound noobish, but I've read up a decent amount on rooting, yet its hard to truly understand whats going on without physically seeing it, but obviously I cant see it cause I dont want to do it unless I know EXACTLY what it entails. And their are no videos on this, just videos on how to root, but never any videos on what to do AFTER you root.

You know, you could also read some of the stickied rooting threads...

Rooting, in and of itself, doesn't do very much. It will not make the phone go faster, or open up hidden tools. What it does do is comparable to logging into a computer as "Administrator" instead of "JustSomeUser44". That is to say, on the surface everything will still look the same, but there are certain places you can get to that you normally couldn't.

For example, per default you only have write access within "/sdcard" and its subdirectories; but with root, you can write to the entire system ("you" here meaning you as a user wielding a file manager, or indirectly by using an app that says it requires root, such as screen capture tools).

(BTW, your thread title is not very pertinent, not to mention rather unfriendly. You should consider something more descriptive in the future.)

I'm sorry you feel that way, and i appreciate your response....but EVERY time I post asking about rooting, or have read someone else's post its full of snotty tech-savvy people who want to feed their ego by talking to us like theres no hope and we shouldnt bother and it gets really tiring and frustrating, so I figured this time around I would put in a little disclaimer before the fact

PS - and often times if its not the snotty person, its the person who rooted their phone but didnt read up on it and STILL knows nothing about it who just wants to brag that their phone is rooted, and they just post something useless to the effect of "i rooted my phone, and i do not regret it whatsoever!"

but again, thank you for responding, i am beginning to gain a better understanding

You can't interpret tone of voice through a thread post, so I don't see how asking people to be courteous and productive is out of line.

There are plenty of how to root threads, and answers pretty much all of your questions... and I say the first thing you should do after rooting would be, flash some kind of recovery, ie spr or kouches recovery and make a backup. That way you can always go back if you mess something up or don't like a new Rom that you put on your phone.

I'm not the only one who found your initial post hostile. Tip: if you're asking for help, it's a good idea to be courteous yourself, not insult people preemptively. "If you have to ask..." is all the answer you deserved.

Okay, I assume that everyone's had their say on the matter of the wording and we can stop arguing about that before our tempers get the best of us. That said, the thread is very welcome to continue about general rooting and such.
