Stop the music player app?

Quick question. How do I stop/exit/close the stock music player app? The only thing I see is pause.

Thats the only way as far as I can see then to exit just press the back button on phone.

Pausing it actually stops it at the current location. I guess they didn’t use stop because normally that suggests the track is reset to the beginning.

It just seems weird that the player, when not in use, is perpetually in a state of "pause". When I'm done with something, I like to stop it and close it. Oh well, no big. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious. I know I could always kill it in Task Manager.

Not to be rude or anything but I think you have a mental image of a tape drive on pause where the heads are still against the tape and the motor is still running it's just being held in place. In the digital age pause is the same as stop (nothing is still happening in the background), the only difference between pause and stop today is that pause remembers your location in the track. Sorry this sounds really patronising it's not meant to be.

No I'm sure it's something like that. Probably more like I'm thinking of a CD on pause though. It's a mental thing. As long as nothing is happening in the background then I'll just learn to accept pause=stop.

I beg to differ that pause is the same as stop, when pausing and going Home > Settings > Applications > Running Services >

I see three things

Music 8.1MB
MediaPlaybackService (touch to stop)

If I stop MediaPlaybackService it kills the other two, paused is not stopped.

If anyone figures out how to stop it or finds an app that stops, holler

There is no need to clear the data, from that location you can just hit stop.

This is really not intended to be rude, but the preceding two posts (edit: the two before poolshark) are un-informed and not good advice.

You should not do those things to stop music, or even free memory or prevent things from "running in the background."

Android does not work that way.

It is designed to reclaim resources as it needs them. If you force-stop processes yourself, or clear cache a lot, you end up causing the system to do more work as it restarts services and re-creates caches that you closed/removed. You can even cause apps to crash and/or run slowly because it expected to have a cache and you cleared it. There are a few exceptions to this, but 99% of the time new users should not be killing processes or clearing cache.

So, bluenova was basically correct. Pause is, for most intents and purposes, the same as stop.

On my htc sensation, whether using default music player, or google one, when paused, they still sit on my notification page. I'd rather not see a program up there when I'm not using it... seems to be taking up more memory that can be used by others...
I want to turn it off. Is there a 'safe' and user-friendly way?

Just get PowerAmp and call it a day.
