Hey everyone,

im new here to the world of rooting and flashing. i recently "upgraded" to the new OTA 2.1 update and regret it greatly.

i have read/studied the many threads on flashing the droid back to the 2.0.1 and rooting it for further personalization, but here is where my question comes in..

I am mac user and it seems everything is based on Windows OS. I would like to flash my phone back to the original 2.0.1 and was wondering if it would be easier using a windows apposed to my mac leopard OS.

Any wisdom you guys can give, or even links to threads that take care of this would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance everyone!!

Most instructions are OS independent, as the only thing you need for connectivity with the DROID is the ADB from the Android SDK, which is available in windows, MacOS and Linux flavors. For customizations beyond just flashing (such as file editing in .APKs or else framework.res editing) you'll need the JDK (Java SDK) which is also available in same said three flavors, as well as your favorite archiving tool and hex editor. If you plan on doing image editing, you'll of course need your favorite image editor.

Other than the tools being slightly different, most of the processes should be almost identical - IOW, if you use ADB top pull a file from a location using the command
Code:
adb pull /system/{filename.apk} /{localdirectory}
it should be the exact same regardless of OS, and if you are editing files, although the tool will change the actual process swill be the same (so, for example, if you need to search for a particular HEX value in framework.res and then edit the next 4 HEX values, you still do exactly that - your tool may have you do it a bit differently, but the process is still the same). The same holds true for image editing.

RSD Lite does not have a Mac OS client. That part you will have to do in windows (either make a boot camp partition or a virtual machine).

For everything else, there is a mac version of the Android SDK (as long as you have an intel processor) and you just use the native UNIX terminal.
