Root Phone app lags/freezes after root

Hey lot,

I've recently rooted my phone, but it seems as a result (and I don't know if it's actually a direct cause, it's just happened after the root) that whenever I try and use the actual phone app to accept or make a phone call, it lags for about 30 seconds (screen goes black, but still see time bar). Weird thing, is that the calls do actually connect, because after the 30 seconds, either my voicemail has finished speaking, or I'm in the middle of a conversation with someone without even saying a word. None of my other apps seem to be affected.

Any advice? Can I "reimage" the phone, and try to root again?

what phone do you have? what recovery do you have? did you flash any roms?

I'm fairly new to the game of this, so excuse my ignorance lol -- that being said, it wouldn't surprise me if I did something to affect it in this way.

I have a Galaxy S2 from Telus. I followed the instructions here so I guess I'm using Clockmod? And I didn't do anything further that I know of, so considering I don't know what "flashing any roms" means, I'm going to say no?

Thanks dude!

ok so you have clockwork mod. before i go on let me make a disclaimer>>>>>>do not use rom manager(its an app in the play store). it is very buggy. i would do everything in recovery manually. never rely on an app to do what you can do manually.

ok now that is out of the way, i would try and wipe dalvik cache and cache in recovery. this usually fixes most small issues.

Does deleting the dalvik cache reset the phone to factory? I was following the instructions here. I just want to make sure before I go ahead with it.

Cheers

Where is dalvik cache? I cleared the "normal" cache, no luck.

Edit** I tried to clear is via Titanium backup, but I only currently have the free version. Is there a way otherwise?

Edit** I youtube a tutorial -- does deleting the dalvik cache reset the phone to factory? I was following the instructions here. I just want to make sure before I go ahead with it.

in cwm i believe dalvik cache is found under advanced

with tb, i would only use it to back up and restore apps and data and maybe freeze a few things. i never rely on apps to do what recivery can do manually.

no dalvik cache will not do a factory restore. dalvik cache is only a place where temp files and data is stored.

Frustratingly, it didn't solve my problem. I can access the app to dial (as I could before) but after I dial the number and hit send, the screen goes blank, and I can no longer access the keypad etc for about 20 seconds. Then it comes up, and everything functions as normal.

I made a crap video to show you (if it matters) what it's doing.

and this happened right after you rooted the phone? did you flash a rom? if so do you have a link?
Yep. I rooted on Dec 23rd, and I noticed it the next day, Dec 24. No, just stock, but I did install this one first though. It's the same "stock" rom for my Telus phone, but interestingly, one difference I noticed was that the rom on that link now allows me to turn off the shutter sound for the camera, but the one installed via Kies didn't (main reason I wanted to root anyway).

Does that help?

Was that before or after you rooted? If after, installing stock with Odin will unroot you.

If wiping the caches didn't fix your problem, have you tried a factory reset? Did you do a factory reset after you Odin'ed the stock rom? That's usually a necessity to clear up little bugs.

I flashed prior to root. I had a feeling that a reset would be necessary unless someone could potentially fix this one. Anyway, for reset would I just use "Factory data reset" via settings? I'm guessing at that point, I will need to follow different directions to root again (Mikestony?)

Thx

If you rooted after you odin'ed the stock rom, you should still be rooted. An easy way to check is use Root Checker. If I remember right, its ok to factory reset from the reset option in the phone. On some phones if you're rooted, that can cause problems. To be on the safe side, go to recovery and wipe data/factory reset there and also format cache partition.

If you need to root again, you would do it the same way you did before.

Thanks. I definitely know I'm rooted, as I can use rooted apps, but I'll cross my fingers and hope that the wipe will fix the issue and we'll go from there. I'll keep you posted.

Well, isn't that a bitch. The factory reset didn't fix the problem. It still lags. Any ideas now? :p

**edit - actually, it seems after the reset via recovery, the phone is still rooted! And, maybe it's just me, but usually when you factory reset something, doesn't it revert back to the software version that came with the phone? After the reset, I'm still running 4.0.3 instead of Gingerbread. I don't get it...

Well darn.

Try this. Download GooManager from the Play Store. After you install it, open it and tap your menu key. Select Install OpenRecoveryScript. Sometimes its hard to tell its doing anything. Give it a minute and it will install TWRP recovery. Reboot your phone and try a call again. See if that fixed the lag.

Also, go to recovery and do a backup with TWRP. TWRP and CWM don't read each other's recoveries.

It claimed no recovery's were available for my device?

OK, is there a way to unroot the phone, and restore it as it was prior? Because with this thing rooted, it's missing apps that I removed via Titanium Backup. I have some sort of feeling I messed it up by deleting something I shouldn't have....

Ok, here's TWRP recovery. You just flash it in CWM recovery and reboot. If you're using an older CWM recovery, its possible it could cause some lag. Unlikely it would do it with just the phone but I'm not certain. You may have deleted some system app you need by mistake.

If you want to unroot, you would flash the stock rom with Odin like you did before. That will unroot you and also give you a stock recovery.

 Still lagging after TWRP. I'll try and flash the stock again. :/
