I wrote them a note, but I think we should instead be writing to someone else... google? or whoever wrote the original kernel. Isn't the kernel released under GPL? And doesn't that require the release of the modifed kernel source code at the time of release? If that is true, the fact HTC have failed to release their source code since day 1 (and it's been almost a year now) would have put them in direct violation. They should not even be able to sell the device until the source code is released! A link to get the source code should be in the phone box! Maybe non-maliciously "spamming" google about how they should enforce the GPL since they are the copyright holder would make HTC release the source.

Any EVO V carrying lawyers browse this forum?? ;)

Alright, so contacted HTCDev and got their generic response about source code, so I emailed them again pushing my complaints and got this:

Thank you for your reply. Shane, I understand how important the source code is for you and your colleges.

Please allow me escalate this requirement to a higher department. In order to do it, please provide me your IMEI/MEID number and the source code version you are requiring.

I will be looking for your reply.

Is it okay to give my IMEI/MEID to HTCDev? Also...what source code version exactly are we looking for?

I know that Ramjet pointed this out in another thread, but it appears that they have released our source code. It just says it is for Sprint and for the Evo 3D but it is in fact the same build number for the Virgin mobile Evo V.

If you pull off our config file from stock ROM and compare it to the config file in this source code they are tons different. So no I don't believe this is the same source.

Edit: plus after 20-30 emailers I'm sure HTC would point that out and not tell us they are passing this upto the dev team to decided on releasing it.

Looks like we are finally getting somewhere

Dear Joey,
Thanks for contacting us about getting your source code for your Evo V 4g. I would be glad to address this with you, Joey. In regards to this, getting that phones source code is something we are working on getting up. I do apologize for the wait in this, but I thank you for your patience in this matter. In the meanwhile, I hope you have a great day

I asked them why the already have the Virgin Mobile HTC One V but not the Virgin Mobile Evo V 4G. Hopefully with all the other contacts we finally got the fire started! Way to go Android Community :D:D:D:D

That's great news...I gotta admit I've been slacking on my emails, so I'm glad others have stepped up!

I wonder what that source code represents then. It matches the build number for the VM OTA and the source for the latest Evo 3D build (2.89.651.2) was already up before that appeared.

I'm not doubting your findings, just a little confused.

ramjet,

No clue at all, but the break down is if you head to htcdev.com and check out carrier Virgin Mobile and search they don't have the Evo V 4G listed. I just downloaded the

EVO 3D Sprint WWE CRC 3.0.16 v4.0 97.7 MB 2.89.651.2

Lucky for me my Wife's new Evo V 4g just showed up (it's not activated yet) and I did an 'adp pull /proc/config.gz' after downloading that kernel and doing a compare from config to config they are totally different as you can see by meld.

Edit: If you have never used meld before the green lines on each side represent differences in the files. When we got the Triumph source code the differences from one file to another where (3). After doing a build there was a few updates from the stock config which then put them inline with one another.

WOW I can't believe this

Dear Joey,

Hey, Joey, thanks for getting back to us. In regards to if there is an ETA, we don't have one at this point. I know this is something that is being worked on and we don't just want to put up flawed software for the development community to use and we want it to be as close to perfect and include the patches to previous problems we've run into as well. So, that is why that we don't really have an ETA at this point. I thank you for your patience with us in this and I hope you have a great day!

Well I got a call from HTC. I responded negatively to a survey they sent me. I just picked the last option on every question. . "Very dissatisfied" lol- I told the guy why I was ticked. He actually seemed to listen. He said they are working on getting the source code for our phones up. So keep it coming guys. I do 3 emails a day

I'd be happy with a working website :p

There are people who've been waiting days to get their bootloader unlocked. This is my second day. I got my token submitted at 10:30am but no email as of yet. :(

But perhaps I'll ask for the kernel as this will help me long term. In the short term, I just want my doggone .bin file!!!
