Help Wifi connectivity question

New Nexus 7 user here. The wifi indicator on my tablet changes color from gray to blue and back again. What do the colors mean? Is it normal for the wifi to drop out altogether without changing locations, especially when I'm only a few feet from my wireless router? The user manual doesn't address this at all, as far as I can tell. It does the same thing no matter where I am. Yes, I did take it out of the house and try another network.
I called the support line, and the person I talked to seemed to know less about the device than I do.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Good Luck and God Bless

When it drops out, the indicator turns gray, but all my Internet dependent apps give connection error messages. The tablet says it's connected to the network, but the apps disagree.

Generally when the indicator is grey, it means you have no internet connection. It means you don't have connection to the Google servers but since Google is rarely ever blocked, its used to show you have no internet.

So yeah, obviously your apps are going to complain they have no internet, because they don't.

After wrestling with patchy connectivity for a long time, I finally figured out my problem.
Took a trip out of town last week and the tablet worked perfectly at all the hotels and other places I went. Needless to say, I was much happier with my Nexus 7. When I got home, it would not connect at all (strong gray bars, but never turned blue). I called tech support for both Google and Asus, and neither one was of any help.
I finally decided to bite the bullet and buy a new router, even though three other devices in the house were having no problems. That was the ticket! Apparently, the Nexus 7 doesn't like a g router. A new n router woke it up for the first time in my home. What's frustrating is that I specifically asked both support techs about this, and neither one knew about this issue.
If you're having connectivity problems, get a n router!
Thanks for the input.
Good Luck and God Bless
