Voicemail Problems on ParanoidAndroid

I have successfully installed ParanoidAndroid with fully functional 3G, 4G, calls, SMS, and MMS.

The only problem I am experiencing is with voicemail and maybe someone can help me. When someone left me a voicemail, I received a text giving me a number to call to retrieve it. To try to work around this, I restores the visual voicemail apk from stock with Titanium Backup. It actually did work when I did this and I was happy with it except that I also received a text along with the visual voicemail notification.
Well, I called the number that the text gave me and selected an option that said I was using an SMS enabled device. Now when I get a voicemail I get a text showing that it was sent FROM the number that left the voicemail and now my visual voicemail is not working at all. Now I have to call my own number to retrieve messages and the number that it tells me to call in the text messages doesn't work.

Does anyone know how to activate the visual voicemail app? Somehow I seemed to have disabled it by selecting a wrong option when I called the voicemail alert text message.. anyone have insight on this? Will I be able to use visual voicemail again if I go back to stock?

LOL.. well, I called VM for help with the voicemail issue (after returning to stock of course) and they proceeded to "reset my account" and also went through provisioning. Now when someone calls and it goes to voicemail there is a message saying "We're sorry *insert number here* is not a recognized mailbox" and no one at Virgin Mobile seems to know how to fix it. They transferred me to tech support and even they transferred me to an "Advanced IT Department" and they also said they would have to look into it and get back to me.

Haha! I don't know what I did to my voicemail, but I seemed to have annihilated it!

Does anyone think changing my cell number will fix this? Possibly make it create a new voicemail box?

Dang dude that sounds like a disaster. I have no clue this whole visual voicemail thing is foreign to me!

Well, good news.

I could be wrong, but it seems installing Jellybean caused my voicemail to go screwy. Where I messed up was calling the number that the voicemail notification texts told me to call to retrieve my messages. When I did, it prompted me to choose an option that I did or did not use a text enabled device. When I selected yes, that's when things started going crazy. It may have somehow made the network think my phone was a Sprint phone and set my voicemail up differently.

Either way it is fixed now.. but some of the problem was on Virgin Mobile's end. I won't insult anyone here, but I was asked the same question by tech support over and over and put on hold forever. I gave up.

Moments ago, I called tech support and luckily got a guy who knew what he was doing. He said "Oh, here's the problem. I see in the notes that to fix your voicemail they cancelled out your voicemail altogether but it seems it wasn't turned back on. I'll do that now" and BAM! I have voicemail again.

I'm hoping to learn just what makes visual voicemail work in a new rom. I was able to restore Voicemail.apk from the stock rom into ParanoidAndroid using Titanium Backup and it did work completely, but I also got voicemail notification texts from a 4 digit number with a number to call to retrieve them. Curious, I called the number. Pressed "1" to continue and that's what broke my voicemail on the networks end resulting in me calling VM for them to reset it.
Not sure what that means, but I guess visual voicemail would have worked flawlessly in ParanoidAndroid if I had ignored or blocked the notification texts that came with it. I don't understand what triggered the texts because I don't understand everything about visual voicemail. Just putting this info out there for reference to those it may benefit.

Don't call the number they text you. Right now I'm just dialing my own number to retrieve voice mail.

I won't call the number next time (haha), but visual voicemail WILL work on ParanoidAndroid if you restore the apk from our stock rom
I wonder what triggers those texts? How does the network know I switched roms?

My voicemail is also not working. I think this results from the fact that we flashed a new baseband for our phones to work. Virgin can fix this? What did you tell them so that I don't have to face the same problems you did?

Mainly, don't call that number you get in the text message notifications. That will cause a world of problems. Visual voicemail WILL work on a new rom if you restore the voicemail.apk from the stock rom with Titanium Backup but you will also get voicemail notification text messages which you will have to ignore or block.
I learned that the hard way.

When you say voicemail isn't working, do you mean visual or when you call your number?

If it works when you call your number but you have no visual voicemail, then hopefully you made a backup of all your apps with Titanium (You may can extrat the apk from the stock ROM another way and change the persmissions). If so, restore it and the voicemail app works instantly but you will then get text message notifications every time you get a voicemail. I made the mistake of calling the number provided in the text which then BROKE my voicemail completely.

If the latter is what happened to you, I had to call Virgin Mobile. They will have you pull the battery, reboot the phone, go through all the basic troubleshooting steps which gets annoying because you can't tell them you rooted your phone, flashed a rom, and broke your voicemail haha. Just be patient. Eventually when they can't fix your voicemail they will then send you over to tech support who will then completely reset your account which then made me get a new VKey pin, and for a period of a few minutes I couldn't send texts or make calls. Once your account has been reset on the network end, they will restore your voicemail and you have to set it all up again. That was my experience at least.

You can call the number, but if you press 1 then they will stop the voicemail from being sent to your phone. Your best bet is to either restore the visual voicemail like TheBritton said or to just dial your own number and listen to the messages from there.

And messaging apps like Handcent or GoSMS Pro can block that annoying text message if you do restore visual voicemail.

i tried a patched rom for that, and it didnt work (not sure who it was but prinny sound familiar)
