Media speakers on the back of devices...make sense?

So for quite a while now it's been nagging at me, and I figured I would post on here to get some other perspectives on this matter. Why device manufacturers still insist on putting speakers on the back of a device boggles my mind. Why they still haven't thought to put media speakers on the front is confusing to me. Actually the thought has probably crossed their minds, I just wonder why they don't go through with it. I realize that for phones at least, this may not be quite as feasible. But for a tablet I don't see any reason why this isn't done. Volume level out of the devices speaker while watching movies has always been an issue, and some tablets are even quieter than others. I've noticed that simply cupping my hand around the back over the speaker, bringing the sound more directly towards me increases the volume quite a bit. Or at least it appears to, in the sense that you can hear it much better. But who wants to sit there holding it like that? I mean what a pain. I would think it wouldnt be very difficult to put the speaker on the front of the device. What would be even nicer is 2 speakers, 1 at the top of the tablet, and 1 at the bottom. So that while you were in landscape mode watching movies or videos, speakers were on the left and right sides of the device. That coupled with stereo sound would provide a much better viewing experience.

Anyways those are my thoughts. What are yours? Should tablet manufacturers consider putting speakers on the front of the device, actually facing the person who is viewing the screen?

The Samsung Galaxy Tab2 10.1 and Note 10.1 have the speakers on front. They've been available for almost a year now.

See those grills on either side of the screen where the black front finish and grey edging meet? Those are the speakers.

Well hot damn someone stole my idea. Lol. Just goes to show any good idea you come up with, chances are someone has already had it. I was not aware of this. I have not looked at the samsung 10 inchers. Should have done more research I guess. Oh well.

So I'm still left with the question, why don't more manufacturers do this? It seems like a common sense great idea.
