Help Phone reboots once to twice a day automatically

Hello everyone. I'm new here, of course.

Just got my Android phone last week. It is LG Optimus Slider (VM701) from Virgin Mobile.

Since the first day I got it, it would reboot automatically usually about twice a day. Now, it depends on the day. Sometimes it would reboot once, sometimes twice.

I went to check for a software update this morning, and it rebooted real quick, showing the LG logo.

All is fine with the operation of the phone. I seem to not encounter anymore problems, but is this worth getting a replacement phone while I have the chance? Before answering, please read the below information.

  1. I have not dropped the phone.
  2. I'm very careful when carrying it, especially in my pocket.
  3. It shows low disk space pretty often, because I have just under 20 MB available.
  4. The phone is not rooted, and does not have any downloaded applications that run with root permission.
  5. I have avast! Mobile Security with AntiTheft installed. It enabled a device administrator for the phone.
  6. Here is the list of installed apps that currently run automatically at boot:

  • avast! Mobile Security
  • JuiceDefender
  • OEM apps (of course)

Please let me know your thoughts of it rebooting a couple times per day, and whether it is okay for it to do this. Any suggestions welcome.

Welcome to the forums, Jay. It sounds to me like one of the apps or widget is not playing nice with another one, or the associated services of either app/widget, causing a conflict.

I'd start by removing all 3rd party apps/widgets, then reboot the device, then just wait and see if it does the unexpected reboot again. If not, your next step is to install each removed at one at a time and wait to see if that one causes it to happen.

Once in a while it can happen with OEM apps/widgets which are configured by the user to update (weather widgets, Facebook etc). Have a look at those and stop at least one of them from doing anything automatically; in other words, manually update social networking apps or weather, etc for a while to see if that makes a difference, then work from there on which ones to leave manual and which ones to automatically update in the background.

It's common in many Android devices, and is fixable by the user in 99% of cases. :)
