How do I get the Android Music Player to read MP4-tags?

I tried everything and after much trial and error, this is what worked for me.

Download Mp3tag, connect your phone via USB to your computer. Inside Mp3tag open your phone's Music folder in the directory to directly edit the songs on the phone. Select ALL of the mp4 files on your phone on Mp3tag's interface. Right click and choose 'Extended Tags'

Remove these fields:
-Compilation
-Discnumber
-BPM
-Anything else that has iTunes in the title

Save. Viola, your phone will now read the tags. Now getting it to read the cover art, that's another problem all together.

i love poweramp, but there are still files it doesn't recognise. mostly local (australian) bands who have included a digital download in their LP package, but haven't tagged the files... so i go tag them, everything looks fine in itunes, but poweramp doesn't recognise anything but the song title... the rest is "unknown". baahhh

Are you tagging them using iTunes? iTunes could just be updating its own database and not the file tags themseves, or it's doing something iTunes specific to them? Why it's getting "unknown"? If you are using iTunes, try something like MediaMonkey instead.

I've never used iTunes for music myself, apart from when I had an iPhone a long time ago. However I've got hundreds of M4As that came from AllOfMP3 and LegalSounds. They all work fine with Android, tags and coverart. I'm sure we've had posts before about "unknown" tags, where iTunes seemed to be the culprit.
