[Verizon] 0 directory on sdcard question

OK, I have one of the 0 directories on my sdcard. My question is, which directory is my Nexus using for it's information? I've got to delete some stuff off there, because my storage space is about filled up and I don't need two copies of all the info from my sdcard on there.

I am currently running XenonHD 10-23-12, 4.1.2 and wanting to move up to JB Sourcery 4.3, but limited on space right now for backups and the like.

It's most likely from using an outdated recovery. You will need to update to the latest CWM or TWRP to avoid getting nested 0 folders. Doing this will prevent them from growing, but you will have to manually fix the current one/s that you have through an file manager.

It's most likely from using an outdated recovery. You will need to update to the latest CWM or TWRP to avoid getting nested 0 folders. Doing this will prevent them from growing, but you will have to manually fix the current one/s that you have through an file manager.

Well, using latest TWRP and have been. So, just backup stuff and fix what? Delete the 0 folder?

Deleting it might be problematic because I believe there are important files in there. You'll have to move what is in it back up to the same level as the 0 folder, and then you should be OK. As mentioned above, I recommend backing up your SD card just in case something goes wrong.

Darkcyber, what is the release version you are on? want to make sure you dont keep creating the issue over and over.....

I'm assuming you have /data/media/0 folder structure with additional /0 nested folders....If this is true, then go to the last /0 folder and cut all data and paste it in the data/media/0 folder and when asked to merge files/folders say yes..... Do this for each /0/0 folder until you only have 1.... then you should have all your data in 1 folder and the data/media/o folder is the one you want for any 4.2 based rom.

In Root Browser it shows an sdcard with all the usual stuff and then storage/sdcard0. Both of those seem to have about the same things in them. I only have about 1.5 GB of free space on my Sdcard and have deleted all old backups, Roms, and stuff but still out of space. Only thing I can think of is some things are on there twice.

Is there an apparently for finding duplicate things to remove the duplicates?

All I can say is be careful because when I went to CM10.1 My folders were duplicated but the content wasn't. There were multiple instances of the "virtual sdcard" in different directories, but they were all pointing to the same locations. I only had one folder outside of "0" that had duplicated folders.

Download the app DiskUsage and it'll literally help you visualize where the space is being taken up.

I had the same problem back in December. I upgraded from the old October 2012 version of XenonHD to the December version and then things went a little screwy. I had duplicated directories like you did, but not duplicated content/data. I had to copy just about everything into the new directories (don't ask which one that was...can't remember) to get things to work correctly again...some apps that is.

Been using DiskUsage for a long time, but sometimes it's a bit cryptic about trying to find things sometimes. I installed two new apps tonight and they seem to work pretty well and trying to identify a lot of different things. They are Clean Master and SD Maid.

I really think I have duplicate folders that have duplicate backups, roms, and the like and that is what is eating up all my space...now just got to get some free time and track them down.

So, let me ask this and get is straight...the directory I NEED TO KEEP is the /sdcard/0? Is that correct? And can I delete all other 0 directories?

Would it be better to backup my important stuff on my sdcard and just wipe the sdcard and start over?

Yeah this happened to me. Trying to determine file size with root explorer froze my phone it was so large. And that was only with a small handful of backups in there. I was a long time holdout on cwm but recently switched over to twrp and couldn't be happier.

Sorry, don't have any of that. I did merge all the 0 directories back to the main directory and that cleared up a good bit. Now got to get all my .wav music files off and covert them to .mp3 and take off pictures and videos and that should help. Had several TWRP backups that were hiding in those other 0 directories eating up space.

that explains most of it.. at 1 point you had the issue with an old recovery and using a 4.2 rom. Now that your data is all in 1 location you should be ok moving forward

Hello,

I'm needing a little help here. I'm running Sourcery 4.0 right now and I want to load 4.4. My problem is I just checked my storage and I don't have hardly any room on my phone? I did some checking and I have 4 directories with my files.
1) /sdcard
2) /storage/sdcard0
3) /storage/emulated/0
4) /storage/emulated/legacy

I made some backups of my apps this morning in preparation for the new rom. All the backups are in all 4 of the directories. I realize that Android 4.2 is capable of multi user profiles and that is what brought on the 0 directories. I'm thinking I may not have had the latest TWRP before I flashed Sourcery 4.0.

So the question remains how do I get my phone back the way it should be and not mirroring my information in 4 directories?

good question on how to fix it, I have that same thing going on but i dont think its using extra space because i still have 9 gigs of free space, but idk. Just want it like it should...

One more question, when I go into Root Explorer it shows:

storage
sys
...

When I go into sdcard I see all my data in there and this is where I merged all my data back to. But right below sdcard is STORAGE and has these two sub-directory listings in it: sdcard0 and usbdisk. When I access sdcard0 there is all my data again...lol! Just when I thought I had this thing figured out.

So, now, which one of these directories can I merge into the other one and keep and delete the other? I looks like from what I have read that I need to keep sdcard0, but is that the correct location for it, storage/sdcard0?

Again, I am trying to get all this cleaned up and fixed so I can install JBSourcery 4.3.

you should be fine... these files are symlinks and are not truly holding data.....

Your data is actually in /data/media/0 the rest just link back to here....

You need to make sure you dont have any nested /0/0 folders as those truly hold multiple files.

I wouldnt load Sourcery 4.3 though.. its a dog of a rom......

Why do you think the size of a file makes it harder to determine its size?
