Hi

still thinking about getting a desire, has anyone put opera mini 5 on their desire? does it work well? how does it compare with the in built browser

i am often in areas with only GPRS coverage, so opera mini makes using the net bearable there, so its important to me

the built-in browser does pretty much everything you need a browser to do.

Apart from close.

Spend a while browsing and you've got a choice of either
'back, back, back, back.back, back, back, exit or 'Task Killer, end task'

It's one of the reasons I use Dolphin. There's an actual exit button.

Apart from that the default one is pretty good. I still prefer Dolphin though.

Yes, you've missed something ;) That doesn't close it. It minimises it. There's a difference.

Okay, but does it make any different whether it's minimised or closed? At least if it's minimised it saves its position so you can return back to where you left off if you have to close it quickly.

By the way, I'm not trying to be clever or answer you back, I'm genuinely interested. If minimising it is in some way harming my phone or effecting its operation I'd like to know!! :(

It isn't damaging anything, in actual fact you're using the phone in the exact manner it was designed to be used!

Same here :) Opera Mini works very well ... almost, except their (proxy) servers are too slow now. Probably because of a lot of people are using it.

The thing is that HTC Desire is so damn fast! If you are connected via Wi-Fi / 3G, you really dont need server side rendering web browser.

But, if you are connected via 2D/EDGE for example, yeah ... Opera Mini will help.

it works, but i prefer the built in one:)

Have you tried using the windows function on the built in browser? If you press menu and select windows you can close individual windows using the X in the top right corner of each window. You can then open new windows as and when required. You need to keep one window open but that can be simply your homepage.

I've tried Opera Mini and Dolphin on a 2G signal but I still prefer the built in browser and I haven't noticed much difference in speed. You lose the pinch and zoom facility with Opera Mini.
