Engineers - I knew it!

A study with only 200 participants? Yeah, that's definitive!

I occasionally work with some of those "cold and dead inside" engineers.

Here is my unofficial survey:

Clever as hell . . . not really. One engineer I know is routinely tasked with solving specific problems and nothing more. Not sure if she is creative, but she hates her work. Too mundane and pedestrian.

I knew the engineers tasked with bringing the Palm Pilot to fruition. Happy, clever, pleased and excited; they saw the future.

I doubt Jobs and Woz were cold and dead inside.

I know absolutely every engineer involved with developing the famous X-Jack Connector for PCMCIA products. Smart, funny, clever, and always excited. Not at all dead inside. As were the folks tasked with trying to figure out how to make it. All of us were alive inside and not at all cold.

I know a creative engineer that loves to solve problems but he prefers to write music and play the banjo. He designs fixtures for manufacturing PCBs and he loves it. He also designs stomp boxes ad pedals for guitar effects. His ability to shred his guitar makes it clear he is not at all cold and dead inside.

Two engineers with a plastic related manufacturer are perhaps cold and dead inside. They both hate trying to come up with the next bottle design. They simply decide how best to engineer the product and setup the production line.

I think you will find all kinds of engineers out there and by studying a small list of STUDENTS, not engineers, you really cannot tell much. I want to see this "well-established questionnaire." Perhaps these Swedish folks wanted a specific result and had to look at a dozen or more "well-established questionnaires."

Are you calling me cold and dead inside??:banghead:

:p:D:p

Apparently, the Swedish are saying you are both cold as well as dead inside. Perhaps you are all hot and warm and alive inside . . . we really will never know.

Either the Swedes are wrong or they could be right, if you engineer common and pedestrian stuff like tennis shoe eyelets, paper punches or perhaps plastic bottle caps. We will not fault you for being cold and dead.
