Help A problem with the default ringtone

I have a problem with the default ringtone. The factory default ringtone is "curve ball blend". I have spent many an hour looking for that ringtone in my phone so I can delete it, but I can't find it. I have many times set the main ringtone to something I want just to have the phone at a certain interval (I haven't been keeping track of the interval) change it self back to the factory default ringtone. The interval is a few days to a week. The phone will also reset the ringtone back to the factory default ringtone if the phone is turned off or the battery is pulled. All other ringtones for other phone numbers in my phone book have to be reset also. No other settings other then the ringtones seem to be effected by this odd behavior. Stored phone numbers, phone log, down load games and files, bookmarks are all un-changed. :banghead:
:dontknow: I don't know what to do about it. I have had a lot of not so good comments about it, it doesn't fit me.

The file is located in the following directory:

/system/media/audio/ringtones

Filename:
CurveBall.ogg

The file is listed in the build.prop file:

ro.config.ringtone=CurveBall.ogg
ro.config.notification_sound=DontPanic.ogg
ro.config.alarm_alert=Alarm_Classic.ogg

If you want to change that you need to have the phone rooted.

You an either mod the build.prop, which is very dangerous if you don't know exactly what you are doing (Google "linux windows line breaks" if you want to know one reason....).

Or you can convert your ringtone to the ogg file format, mount the system partition writeable and then delete the original file, copy your new ringtone over and then rename it CurveBall.ogg . Last but not least you need to set the correct permissions ("chmod 644 CurveBall.ogg" and then "chown root:root CurveBall.ogg"). Reboot and call yourself , if you don't have another phone the use : Wheres My Cellphone?

Check out this link https://www.dropbox.com/s/ihpxogdqj7no85e/cell phone dir's.jpg it is a screen capture of every directory that I can see from my laptop of my phone via the usb cable with the phone in normal pc (no debug) connection. I also couldn't find were to put the saved directory of names and phone numbers from my old phone. I ended up manually entering the names and phone numbers.

1.)your screen shot is broken

2.)you can't access it from your PC. It doesn't work that way. You need a file explorer on the phone, with root access. (Popular ones include Root Explorer, and ES File explorer.)

This article recommends the following Windows application:
Android Commander

You do need to have a rooted phone with busybox and USB debugging needs to be enabled, so please read all the requirements.

You might also need this app on your phone in order to make your system partition writable:

You can also do this also by hand (terminal) but this would be the lazy way.

I also have a prog called "wifi tether" that requires that the phone be completely rooted before the prog will work, and "wifi tether" does work.

And in es file explorer, go into the settings, and then go to root settings and check all the boxes, then press the back button until you see the root directory ( "/" at the top of the screen)

You should now see the "system" folder. Then just navigate to /system/media/audio/ringtones/ and you will find the file you're looking for... just be very careful because if you delete the wrong thing you could end up messing up your phone and since there is no recovery, it could be very hard to fix it.

I have had to fix other peoples screw ups in windows because thay mess with the sys files, directory's and/or the win registry file. I am a computer tech. I am just not up to speed on the Lenux os and Android yet. That's why I ask questions rather then stumble around like a blind man in a mine field.

i use a free program called "format factory".
it converts just about everything.

and sometimes you can just rename the sound file with the .ogg extention and it will work.
i have even put .mp3 files into the sys folder and they show up

First post, but a big thanks to all the folks with helpful info on rooting the Hydro!

I had the same "Curve Ball" problem and after rooting/deleting that annoying ogg file I haven't had that problem in a week (knock wood). As a musician/guitarist I use Adobe Audition for PC recording and have a song I wrote/performed as my ringtone. I used Audition to convert mp3 to ogg and ES File Explorer to move it from SD card to system/media/audio/ringtones.

Anyway, my ringtone features 17 overdubbed guitar tracks with no drums/bass/vocals and a few of the tracks were done with my trusty 7-string. Peace, love, and Rock 'n' Roll to all Hydro users!
