Next top tier virgin mobile phone?

I'd have to say the next phone will be the Evo 4G LTE. Personally, I think the white one is one of the best looking phones right now, even better than the galaxy. Since the Evo V 4G came on VM almost exactly one year after the 3D on Sprint, the Evo 4G LTE will probably come to VM around June, about a year after it came out on Sprint.

Do you think the updates that VM has been talking about lately have to do with them supporting LTE?

prolly not, we just got wimax, from what I been reading, theres no plans yet to give LTE to VM, esp since Sprint is starting a seperate prepaid service, if I'm not mistaken.
I doubt we'd see the Evo LTE just because of this.
as to T-mobile? while sprint/vm has lousy service in my area, at least I can get a signal, T-mobile? not so much..

I'll have to look into Sprint prepaid. Will it be a company like VM or just a set of prepaid plans under Sprint? The only reason I suggested the Evo 4G LTE is because it seemed like a logical choice in progression after the Evo V. Though VM just got Wimax, they have already received the best Wimax phones, the Evo V and the Galaxy S2.

I don't think Sprint will be building any more WiMax towers here in the US, sounds like they will join the rest of the US market and start building out LTE towers.

Origionaly VM was an independant company that just baught airtime from Sprint and remarketed it. Sprint has their own pre-paid company - Boost Mobile. If what I understand, Sprint purchased VM, then I would not be surprised to see Sprint merge the two in the next year or two to create Virst, or some other crazzy name, such as Embarq Mobile.

I don't know what phones we can expect this year, yet I think BM and Sprint will each keep a WiMax phone availbe so they can claim international support. While WiMax never really took off here it is better supported over seas,, so Sprint and Boost Mobile will target that crowd with a higher cost phone. I don't know if VM will continue to support WiMax or not, or just in those few markets where it is currently build out.

Sprint has had part ownership in VM since Day 1. Virgin Mobile USA was started in 2001 as a joint venture. Virgin, Sprint, and SingTel were the partners. In 2009, Sprint bought out their partners to become sole owner.

I cant imagine Richard Branson ever wanting to change the name of his company

It's not his company anymore. Sprint owns 100% of it. They may pay royalties to him to keep using the name Virgin Mobile, but if Sprint decided to call it something else (which I think would be a mistake), Richard can't do much. (Though I could be mistaken...I don't know the wording of their contract)

What I haven't bothered to research is how Sprint bought out their partners. Was it through cash, or through stocks in Sprint?

I could be wrong. But I dont think Sprint owns 100% of Virgin. Why would Branson still do the commercials?

edit * I was wrong..lol

In 2008, Virgin Mobile USA acquired post-paid services provider Helio, Inc. In 2009, Sprint Nextel Corporation bought out joint venture partners Virgin Group and SingTel, becoming the sole owner of Virgin Mobile USA.

He probably still owns the name and logo. There are international virgin mobile operations. He probably licenses the name, and they probably pay him for those commercials.

Why does VM customer support seem worse than Sprint customer support then if they are the same company?

You get what you pay for. :p
Sprint customers probably go to a call center in the US.
VM customers go to a call center...elsewhere.

If you'd rather double your phone bill, you can, but the increase in customer support performance isn't worth $45+ a month to me. ;)

I'm hoping for the Galaxy Note II ,but VM will charge probably $1,000 bucks for it.

If everything was the same as before I would rule it out, however VM is supposed to be running trials on a payment plan system for phones.

However I doubt that the Note 2 would hit, they wouldn't allow current Sprint top-tier phones to go out to MVNO's. Maybe the original Note might come out.

I'd put money on the EVO LTE as the next phone. Probably get the S3 LTE later in the summer after they let people buy the EVO LTE's for a few months (they get more upgrades that way).
