Atfw-deamon KILLING battery

I just bought a new phone, and battery life seemed to bad to be true. Even a phone with bad battery life should be doing better than this. In my battery usage settings Android System is always at the top using 40 to 70 %. When I push the refresh button, it changes for a moment and I see the exact process is atfwd-deamon. What is this and why is it killing so much of my battery? I've had drainage of up to 10% in about 1 minute. Literally. Please help.

Well if anyone cares, I've noticed that it only does this when the screen is on. Idle, the battery is fine. But simply having the screen on, even doing nothing, Android System (ATFWD-DAEMON) jumps up and it drains fast. Odd, because the screen is very low, the bottom in fact, on the list which is opposite of my nexus and other Android devices. Additionally, all of my google searches are proving to be of no help at all. Whenever I do find a conversation on this topic, the person who is having a problem similar to mine is inundated with the most basic, trivial battery saving tips; change wifi settings, turn off sync, etc... No one seems to take the issue seriously and acknowledge that this is not a standard battery drain issue. I wish some developer or programmer would look into this issue. For some unknown process hidden in the general Android System package to account for 70+ % of your battery consumption, while only being active for a minute, minute and a half, is NOT right.

Have you tried just factory resetting the device yet? It seems like this is a really big issue and it might just need to be factory reset.

Otherwise what phone do you have exactly?

yeah not sure if this is android specific as my phone(HTC Evo 4g LTE) does not have this process running like that. it could be a phone issue though or maybe something not right on your phone specifically.

I have a ZTE warp sequent right now. Its a temp phone until I can actually get a nexus. I got it because it has similar shape lines as the nexus, and it's almost completely vanilla Android. So it makes me feel nice while I wait.

But I didn't post in that category because for one, it's really dead in there. So please don't move me in there. And also, it's not specific to this phone. In my searches, I've found people having this issue with different phones. Some of then thought it was stemming from there new roms they flashed, but mine is stock, as was my Huawei mercury which also had this issue, so it's not just a custom ROM issue.

I thought maybe it was an issue with cheaper phones, but then I saw some people with galaxy nexus phones with the problem, so now I'm not so sure about that either. I have done 2 factory resets, to no avail. I'm stumped. ATFWD-DAEMON is a mystery to me.

I have attached a screenshot of the process i managed to catch. I know I have 12 plus hours on this charge with 41% battery left, but the only reason I have 12 hours, and the only reason the ATFWD-daemon process is only at 31% instead of like 70% is because my screen has been off most of the day. As you can see my screen is only at 9%, and like I said this process ONLY happens when screen is on.

What comes up when you press on "ATFW-Daemon" in that screen?

Maybe try flashing a new ROM onto the device. That is about your last option.

Otherwise maybe try contacting your carrier or manufacturer.

What comes up when you press on "ATFW-Daemon" in that screen?

It just shows up as Android System, and shows me the included packages. Like settings storage, system ui, com.zte.emode, google backup transport, etc. But even if I stop every process that can be stopped, the problem persists. It has to be tied deep into the system.

Heres a suggestion for yu bro. If u have an issue wit ur phn (zte warp sequent), then post it on The phones forum N Nowhere else cuz ur not gonna get help... as for yur problem, i dnt even have That on my phn N its stock. I have the same phn as u.

Really? The very same post where I stated what kind of device I had was the same post where I asked not to be moved into said devices forum. Furthermore, I did NOT post a device specific thread, I posted a thread about a general Android issue. I only LATER named my device after being inquired as to what it was.

Moving my general Android question, that I asked not to be moved, into a specific device category that very few people visit just because I happen to have that phone, is not assisting me as best as possible.

I also already stated that I have performed 2 factory resets. How much of my posts did you actually read? Please kindly move this post back to the Android Lounge.

Thanks for the advice, but as I have stated before, the issue is NOT specific to this phone. It is a question about an Android process that takes place in MANY ANDROID PHONES.

You say yours doesn't have it...does Android system show up in your battery stats at all? And if it does, is it anywhere near the top?

Not that atfw thing. But just cuz ur battery dies fast doesnt mean u shud blame The phn. It all depends on how often u use the phn. I can Go 4 hours straight from a full battery to 10%. But thats cuz i play wit my phn non Stop wit games, downloading stuff and texting nd using facebook. Plus u can use titanium backup to delete unused apk's that run in The background n use up battery Power. Turn off wifi ,sync, gps or bluetooth wen not in Use

Ahh, yeah mine says Android System too, but that's a general package title that includes and can actually be any number of processes. When I hit refresh in the batt stats menu, it changes for a second, that's when I see what specific process it is. In this case is ATFWD-daemon. On my nexus 7, where Android system hovers around 2 to 5 %, it says surfaceflinger when I hit refresh.

Oh yeah i wasnt trying to compare them. Lol Just offering anecdotal info about the nexus. But i had a htc one v, and Android system was also really low, and my gfs samsung galaxy reverb also has android system at like 7% only. My Zte and my old huawei mercury are the only phones ive seen android system so high. Both cheap Chinese manufacturers lol. Both under scrutiny for security concerns. Not saying that had anything to do with this. Other phones have this issue.

Just really want to know what atfwd-daemon is doing. I already tried rooting to mess with it and fix, but the root failed for some reason and im not keen on trying again. Already bricked one phone, cant afford a new one right now.

It's my belief at this time that you will need root and a custom rom or root with the stock rom and either adb or a root capable file explorer to pull the offending file.

I don't know why it's only affecting certain phones. I just spent an hour researching this and came up with the same dead ends as you have mentioned. If a factory reset (or 2 in your case) hasn't fixed the issue, then there's nothing you can do without taking more drastic measures.

I know you said this is a temp phone so I'm not sure if the above is an option for you until you get your Gnex.

Although I'm still not sure why my thread must be relegated to this very unpopulated corner of the forums. Considering the issue is present on other devices and some of their owners may have run into it and perhaps had some insight to provide about what the process does. Oh well.
