But that root kernel that you mentioned, it will give this device root as long as we stay on GB? Correct or nope?

i have no idea, right now its just a shimmer of a bit of hope i dont know if the kernel will ahve any side effects, like breaking wifi or the cell radio. but as it stands its the only idea ive got regarding root and this device

Please somebody find a real root that works. Im trying to, but it seems impossible so far, and it's pissing me off! Lol :(X)

Lets do this, we cant let the cell companies, corps win!
It should be illegal for these F_CK nuts to keep us out of our phones and not being able to unlock and remove bloatware and take control of our own phones because of one thing...
WE PAID F_CKNG CASH FOR OUR PHONES!! WE SHOULD BE IN CONTROL, NOT THEM!
Sorry for the curses..., but you all feel the way i do :)
Keep me updated...

i never said that, my point was the kernel i have will not work on ics. but i mean either way once ics comes out unless you guys get root on that version you guys will be SOL without CWM. and since that is a very very very faint pipedream you guys might be up there with teh second metro phone that never got root (first being coolpad quattro :p )

Wrong it will be the third one the first is the Samsung galaxy lightray.

i thought the attain was not root able shabby you sed so so how it has root but admire 4g giving us such a hard time

i never said the attain was unrootable. i said it doesnt have CWM. the reason why the attain got root at least is because they had people willing to test stuff. they got root and stopped caring so cwm progress slowed down and then we stopped careing (we as in my team). now on this device i have said i have a possible root method. if it works then you guys could have what might be your only shot at root.

that was 2 weeks ago, since then no one has bothered. there isnt much more i can do. you guys have the phone, we dont, so we cant test anything.

there is a few ways phones get root. you have an exploit that you ifnd in the phone and use that to gain escalated privileges in shell, this is what most of your usual roots are. they may use different exploits and how they attack but the general concept is the same. the more common way for samsung devices is via a custom recovery/kernel since they have unlocked bootloaders and can use odin. what is great about rooting via custom recovery is no matter what updates you get you can still root.

the problem with custom kernels is they require a ramdisk, which the only way to get that is by unpacking from stock kernel. only way to get stock kernel is hope someone at samsung leaks it, or you use root and pull it off.

sinc emost of teh exploits have been patched and fixed that really leaves you with a custom kernel/recovery method. so if someone could be kind enough to get root, so they could pull kernel off for everyone else i can unpack it and get root for yall. see the conflicting cycle with that? :/

I really wish i could help, but its my wife's phone.

Well isn't that a big pile of sadness. I'll still be willing to guinea pig my phone for anyone who has potential ideas.

Thanks for all the help :)

Don't know if he changed his mind, but he seemed willing to test.

OK so I'm pretty much a noob..and when I say noob I mean it I know next to nothing. However with the help of these forums I was able to root my Samsung galaxy tab 2 7.0 and I'm currently running CyanogenMod 10.1 nightlies. Runs excellent haven't had an issue since rooting and installing the custom ROM.(mid December) OK so after feeling like such a badass I decided I wanted to root my phone which is the sprint optimus elite after much reading and not gaining the confidence to try it on my phone I left it alone. Until today I came across the poot method ? I'm guessing its called sorry if its not. I attempted several times to download both apks that were provided with repeated unsuccessful downloads..so I got to the point IDC if I brick the phone..so I hooked the phone up to my laptop let it find the drivers and all that stuff it needs to do..I then download both apks onto the pc ..I then opened the file to view my phones SD card files...I drag both apk files into the downloaded section of my phones SD card. Unplug my phone from the PC and installed an app called SD card manager from the app market. I then go into the download file of the SD card there's poot and the mistro file I click poot it says it needs mistro to operate download from market I went ahead and did it even though I should of just installed mistro before poot anyhow mistro downloaded and poot began to run It asked to install superuser and a root checker I install both and upon checking if I have root and SUCESS it says my device is rooted..Im not sure if this if going to destroy my phone in the long run but to be honest idc I finally have root

I have hooked my phone up to commander and been able to pull apks and things off so is there a way that i can pull the kernel off with it? i've been waiting on root so that i can put my themed apks back so let me know where i can find the kernel and i'll try to get it out of there for us

no you need root to pull the kernels.

it may very well be that poot works. if thats teh case then you guys dont have teh same cpu as teh attain and i actually might be able to do recovery for yall :)
