well we had to know it was coming soon i mean it's only natural. I have to say i had some good fun with the G Nex. It was exciting following the hype and speculation even though VZW made it last too long. The Rom community was great for this device since day one and still is. Unfortunately for me it just wasn't enough of a "phone" first and foremost. Either way it was/is an iconic device for Big Red. Sadly i don't think we'll ever see another Nexus type device on VZW.

I started out that way for a while myself, seeing as the updates were painfully slow, after being touted as pure Google and whatnot...

Then I rooted...

I was always adamant to maintain that one shouldn't have to resort to rooting, and 3rd party help, for devices to work properly, yadda yadda. However, I will say that for me, it certainly took the VZW pitfalls out of the equation for me, and that it felt like a whole new phone on a custom ROM.

I don't know about not seeing a Nexus device on VZW again. I love my Nexus, and would hate to not have the same sort of options again. That said though, I do hope that future phones allow themselves similarly easy rooting options for the community down the road, so that it's not a turn-off to potential customers. I'm not the type of person to turn and say "F you Verizon, I'll go to another carrier for a certain phone", because I've never had an issue with actual service, the coverage where I am is better than anything else around can offer, and I'm not about to risk my unlimited data any sooner than I have to.

But I love my Nexus, I'd say it's hands-down my favorite phone to date. It's gonna take something quite impressive to get me out of it, that's for sure.

It certainly is a bummer and leaves me in a quandary of leaving Verizon. Do I want to sacrifice perhaps less service for better pricing and phones?
I'm just not sure yet after 10 years of being on Verizon. I see Galaxy phones are upgraded more frequently now but with a bit of problems. I'm not sure I want to move to them. Nexus always seems better. Blech, first world problems.

Rooting doesn't fix the horrible radio signal or BT issues. BTDT.

I do think the dev community transformed this phone from being among the worst ever, to one of the best. The radios are weak, but not any weaker than previous Verizon Samsung devices at the time. The Droid Charge and Galaxy S1 also had terrible wireless radios, so It's not like we went in completely blind. I haven't had any real serious issues, but I mostly attribute that to where I live. I think I could live with Verizon and their high prices if it wasn't for all the other stuff like locking down EVERY device, blocking Google wallet, their attempt to pass credit card fees onto customers paying with credit cards, and many other things too. All 4 carriers have pretty decent coverage where I live, so I'm going to wait until my contract from the gnex expires, and evaluate at that point. ETF + new phone costs is too expensive to break right now, plus the Nexus 4 is too difficult to buy (probably a good thing).

Agreed. I had it rooted and running 4.2.1 and it was just awesome. Great phone, great form factor, and the VZ coverage is truly the best (I agree with all the other negatives about them, but I travel a lot with my work and I have a company t-mobile phone and the coverage is day and night). I do hope there is another Nexus on VZ and if not, I might go with the S3 or Note 2. Both have great dev support. From what I've seen, I am not ready to jump ship to a different carrier for now. Let's see how T-mobile progresses on their LTE network... R.I.P Galaxy Nexus from big red...

Agreed on the great service of VZW. That is why i never even toyed with leaving them.

I had my G Nex rooted from day 1 and there was no Rom or Kernel or any mod out there that i could put on my phone to make it reliable for an actual phone call. Between the Poor Radios/ Mic bug/ and horrible Battery life it just wasn't getting it done.

I really think the system needs to slow down i feel like a lot of the devices right now are being rushed too much even Android OS feels rushed at times.

The mobile version of Verizon's site still lists the 4G LTE Galaxy Nexus by Samsung as available. Is this the same phone as the one mentioned in the OP? Perhaps their mobile site hasn't been updated yet.

Does anyone know how long the refurbished units usually last after something like this? I have one, with insurance, and a cracked screen that I want to make a claim on, but I was hoping to get an upgrade, like a GS3.

I don't have an exact time frames, but depending on popularity of the phones, they usually have refurb stock for up to a couple years.

This is true, unless it's a software issue on each that can be fixed. I never had BT issues until the latest 4.2, which leads me to believe that when when fix that, they should revert back to normal. And the issues I have are only a connection thing, that a quick reboot solves. Not saying it's not an issue, or that it should just be accepted as normal, just giving my experiences. Never had any signal problems myself either, where I am. Again, I know others have, and I know there are others like myself that haven't. I've been very lucky with mine, so it may sway my decision towards it.

I'm also not entirely brand-loyal. I've had Samsungs, HTCs, and Motos. LG for me has always seemed a touch behind the curve with their phones (on the whole). But for my next device, if it's NOT a Nexus, it'll come down to whether or not the device has a good Root community behind it, and what kind of feel I have about the phone.

Half tempted to buy a 2nd Nexus outright just to have as a spare though lol
