Rooting Challenge: LG Optimus Extreme

Hey fellow Droidheads,

I recently received an LG Optimus Extreme (LG-L40G) and absolutely love it. This is my first Android phone and I am enthralled; I never thought I'd be playing mini games and old GBC/A emulators as I've always been a desktop junky.

That being said, I'm also a perfectionist, and once I found out what "rooting" was I had to do it. We ended slavery 150 years ago and putting my phone in shackles is injustice. Yadda, yadda, I need help rooting the device.

I have tried Titanium Backup but it does not recognize the access (Play store does say it is compatible.)

It runs Android 4.0
Has a 4 inch screen
Likes to be touched

Any assistance would be gratifying.

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!
do you have a recovery? if so you will need one.

once you have recovery then you will need to flash a su (superuser) file in order to get root access. also you will need to get the superuser app from the play store as well. not sure if there is a su file made for your phone, however. not really sure if it is phone specific to be honest.

Thank you ocnbrze for your timely and enthusiastic response.

I think one of the biggest hurdles here is going to be the lack of info and popularity of this phone. Sometimes I think it listens to me pee.

That being said, is it safe to flash a phone without ensuring there is a specific file needed? Additionally, what backup app would you recommend?

yep we do not even have a forum for your phone, unfortunately. and without a dev community behind your phone there is not much really you can do.

you can try flashing the su file, get the superuser app from the playstore and then you can at least use titanium backup to freeze and delete bloatware.

Could the device potentially blow up in my face like a wasted 3 year old on one too many juice boxes? Or could it otherwise brick me up like han solo in that second movie about wookies and incest?

ok first off, i love your title for this thread. this is definitely a rooting challenge. i really could not find anything so far as info to rooting your device. curious as to how you did it?

second, you sure have a gift for words.....LOL
no the device will not spontaneously blow up....and you can;t brick it like han solo:rofl:

there are ways to brick the phone but it is something where you have to be just not paying attention to what you are doing.

do you have recovery? if you do that is awesome. if not then you can try the superuser app and see if it will work.

no recovery means you should be fine and not get into any troubles that i see.

Sorry for the confusion, my phone is as unrooted as ever. I was inquiring as to the blow-upedness of applying the wrong or unintended flash. It's still just sitting here, mocking me in all it's phony phoneness.

Thank you for your compliments, I will take them under drunken advisement.

ahhhhhh ok i see the light now.

so as far as rooting this device, i think you might want to hold off. there is really no develop community support for your device. i do see that other lg optimus phones can be rooted, but i do not see anything specific for your phone. for me, i only root phones that have a dev community to back it up. no point really if there isn't one for the phone......but that is up to you.

i will continue looking for a way. but i really have not come across anything so far.

Thank you wise and compassionate Sir.

There is a possibility that I could be test case zero. "The dev unto himself" if you will. I think when they write about it in the telephonic history books, they will call me brave but dumb. His last words were "Give me root or give me brick." And brick he did get.

But seriously thank you for being the lone Samaritan on this forum tonight, I appreciate the help man or woman
