Google's D&#$ Move: Upstage BB10

I dunno, it could just be coincidence as well. Sure it seems fishy but who knows. One thing I can be sure of is that Google isn't afraid of Blackberry. The Nexus 4 sold out so quickly the first time, I don't think Google is concerned over Blackberry. This is Blackberry's last ditch effort in bringing the company back from the brink of death. If this doesn't work, BB is done.

I personally think they are already on their way out. I don't have high hopes for them. Too little, too late. Google has nothing to worry about from Blackberry.

Like I said, it does seem fishy, I agree with you on that. Hell, this could be Google's "kick them while they're down" tactic for all we know. You're probably right, but what difference does it make? Blackberry isn't the superpower it once was. Government agencies around the world, including parts here in the US, have dropped Blackberry in favor of iPhones. They are losing contracts left and right. This could be Google telling the oldest smartphone maker that its time to move on.

However, for all we know, this could save Blackberry. Only time will tell. However, the Nexus 4 coming back on sale hasn't exactly received the excitement from the tech blogs out there. Most of them all seem to be focused on Blackberry at the moment. So I don't think Google succeeded in stealing their limelight.

Seems like Google likes to pull these passive aggressive stunts when they think they can get away with it.

"Sorry Microsoft we don't really feel like making anymore dedicated apps for YouTube... By the way we are changing the protocol on Gmail kthnxbye!"

"Oh sorry Blackberry we didn't realize your big press conference/product launch is tomorrow... Our bad."

"&#%$ you Apple" (okay that one probably isn't very subtle)

It was definitely no coincidence. The BB announcement has been trailed for weeks - everyone in Telecoms has known about it and has been waiting to see what happens with it.

I'm sure they weren't 'scared' by it, but I'm also sure they took some delight in doing something, however minor, to upstage it.

I think you're reading way too much into it.

Google aren't that clever. Sure, technically they're amazingly clever and astute, but when it comes to marketing, they just don't have a clue.

The Nexus 4 is the best phone in the world, but 85% of the people I know have never even heard of it, yet they've all heard of the iPhone. If Google really had a clue about these matters then it should be out selling the iPhone, yet even if it was in full supply it wouldn't sell a tenth of the amount the iPhone 5 has. I think you're giving Google too much credit.

I believe RIM could take back some enterprise market that Apple took from them, but that would be it.

I believe Android will eventually (as in 2013) garner RIMM market share. The only RIMM devotees are government and corporate users, mired in and still used to stabbing fingers at buttons, years behind the mobile-computing exponential power curve.

Just realized Blackberry 10 launched today. Anyone else think there is NO WAY IN HELL it's just coincidence Google picked yesterday to relaunch the Nexus4.

If so it will be a d&%# move worthy of its own cracked article.

Does anyone REALLY care about blackberry anymore? I had a blackberry for work and I dumped that thing in a month it was awful. Blackberry has been on it's way out for a while. I don't think people who were waiting for a nexus would have decided on a blackbarry instead.

While their phones were ancient tech, they did do a few things right. BBM, which Apple ripped off, and BBM group photo sharing, which Apple took and completely screwed up. While iMessage was alright, I do miss Blackberry's group photo sharing. It worked pretty great.
