Phone Update MS77010e update just released!!

A couple quickie update questions.

My 4 week old Motion has C version. The new one is now 2 versions past mine. I really don't want to root and am about to go No Mas No Mas on the auto update reminderS.

Is it REALLY that much better of an idea to get the update from the website (that I'm not so comfortable doing) than OTA?

Will it updating TWO versions forward at once OTA cause any issues?

Is it better to do the DL via Wifi or 4G?

Thanks in advance,

Bruce in Ocala, FL

Update via USB is way better than OTA. It will only update once :)

So, what does the update do, anyone know yet?

Nope, we think it just improves battery life :)

Installed update. (Not rooted) The only difference I've seen so far is that I have to hold the power button down longer to get the shutdown/restart window

It would be nice to see some release notes on these updates.

Does your battery last longer?

Will I lose root if I do ota?

I don't know.

I'd like to know not only this, but can someone please post a noob-proof, step by step guide to doing this so tech dummies like myself can so it? :)

per MetroPCS Facebook page:

**Update on Update** It took about an hour total to download and install. I had no issues, installed perfectly. So far the only things I've noticed after the update are: two system apps were updated by the Google Play Store upon reboot (Metro Total Protection and Metro Block-It (I use Block-It - the new UI is a lot nicer)), the scrolling and screen transition animations seem a lot smoother and the final thing I noticed, which I consider the most important, BATTERY LIFE was a lot better. The battery did not deplete as quickly as it did before - I don't have the new battery stats yet, but anecdotally, BETTER. If anyone else notices anything, PLEASE keep us Motion users posted. Good night all.

The OTA update only includes the new software that is used to overwrite the old software.

The 500+MB download is the entire device firmware including the updated software and is flashed to the phone manually using software tools on your PC.

Took a bit over 40 min start to finish for me on an Acer Aspire and marginal Wifi.

Everything still works anyway.

On Version E.

Thanks.

Since I've already downloaded and installed the 13.10mb OTA version, can I still download and install the 570mb version via PC?

Not sure, Sammyz will know.

but, if I had to take a educated guess, you may need to use Sammyz guide to downgrade, and then run the update with the PC.

Edit: I guess my educated guess was correct.
