Root N2A card Jellybean update

I am about to buy the N2A card update to Jellybean. Any users here?
Think there is a 50% discount for current card owners, so $10 for a download looks like a bargain to me.

JB for the NC is barely useable.... lags and hangs.

It's not a stable build yet.

CM9 wasn't useable on the underpowered NC, even when overclocked. I'm not convinced JB will be either.

Don't do it! I did and I may switch back to gingerbread. I swear, this update is making me want to go out and buy an ipad or something. If only I had the money.

eta: the PTB at n2a sent me a gingerbread image and I think they are sending it to others who request it too. Apparently JB is a fail for others too.

Thanks for the replies & comments. Impatient as I am, I did already buy the JB download but now I am going to put it on a new SD card and keep my GB card like it is. Then I can see whether or not my NC likes it or not.

Well sorry about the kittens (think the coyotes ate my cat) , altho' guess the truth is that I really am a dog person. Yes, I do know about creating my own SD card & originally made myself a 4 mb card, but sometimes my time is limited so have to use the convenience route.
Anyhow installed the download on my card & have been playing with it today. So far - no complaints. Not the fastest gun in the West (the NC does have its limits), but seems quite stable. ;-)

I just upgraded my Nook Color with an N2A card. I had gingerbread on it as well for a while and wanted a change. In order for the N2A card to work, you have to restore your NC to a factory Nook. You cannot just input the N2A card from gingerbread. Mine did not work. The easiest way I found to restore it back to stock was the hold down the power button, both volume keys, and the N and the Nook will turn on then off. I saw somewhere to do it 8 times in a row and then it will prompt you to restore your Nook Color to stock. I think my request kicked in after about 4 tries. So far so good for me, but I just started using it. I also did clock it to 1GHz to try to get the most out of it. Basically it is just a new interface so I start playing with it again. I bought the upgrade for $20 because I had the microSD card. The other problem I had was that I could not get the 32GB image on a 32GB card. I had to ask tech support to send me the 16GB image because the program kept stating that my image size was too large. I reformatted many times, but could not free up enough space so that the "listed" file could be written on to my 32GB card.

You mean replace the stock rom with a custom one, like CM7? (or keep the stock rom, but root it to enable installing apps from Play Store?)

I guess that's the first place to start. Which do I want? I want to be able to use it like a normal tablet. What is the different between the ROMs and just rooting to have apps?

Keeping stock B&N rom gives you a reader that can also install other apps. If you use the B&N software a LOT to read books, you might to just root it, which installs Google Play store and a few utilities. You can install any app, not just the ones that B&N store allows. How I rooted B&N 1.4.1 and got the Android Market to work

If you don't read books or plan to use it as a tablet, you can replace the stock rom with a custom one like CyanogenMod. You can still read books (with any app), but lose a few functions like read-to-me books if you use the B&N reader app from Play Store. How to install CM7 on your Nook Color

Did you confirm you don't have the Nook Tablet? If you have the tablet, none of these links will work.

Which one did you choose? You shouldn't need to go back to 1.4.1 to root and definitely don't need to install CM7.

The guides are more for Windows users, but there are some tips to using a Mac. (One of these days I'll have to update the guides to be more Mac friendly since I have a mini now.)

You should read the first link for instructions, but i believe all you need to do is create the card, DL the files, copy them to the card and boot off of it with your NC. The first boot will take at least 5 minutes so don't panic.

You want a Sandisk class 4 (or class 2) card for best performance. I'd use at least an 8 gb card, bigger if you plan to move some media (movies, music, pictures) to it.

However, I've been through those instructions before. The basic instructions (message #1 in the thread) are approaching 2 years old, and there are still dead links, etc. in it.

Imagine, if you would, if I wrote you instructions on how to hop up your Chevy small block engine. It would be natural for me to assume a certain level of expertise and knowledge that you (and most people, really) might not have.

It's very hard to write instructions down to a noob level, and so far, I haven't found any that are noobish enough for me.

The N2A card was dead simple. I downloaded the file, put the proper SD card in the Nook Color, started it up, connected it to the computer, got it in USB mode, double clicked on the downloaded file, and followed the simple instructions on their instruction video. When it was all done, it runs fine. I guess that's probably worth the $20 for the download.

I would love to do it a little differently, try CM7, etc., but I've just never gotten one to work (and yes, it was on a SanDisk card).

I guess I'll just have to spend a little extra time at the local animal shelter, where I volunteer, and offset my kitten killing with some extra kitten preparation for adoption.

The above links work are are dated Oct 2012. The directions on page one still apply, but admit they are a bit vague.

You can use my guide to flash the IMG file: [Guide] How to make a bootable CWM 3.2.0.1 (ClockWorkMod) or TWRP 2.1.1 bootable sd card (4-22-2012)

That just leaves what to do with the files, which should still apply from the first post.
