This is my first week using my phone, and the battery is not what i expected. I thought it would be much better. Just a few minutes of checking facebook and going on the internet it costs me few percents of battery. Also, when my phone is locked, i constantly checked and it kept going down slowly. It says my screen is using 50% of my battery. Any ideas to fix? Will it get better over time?

These batteries do get better over time. I have owned several android phones since the HTC G1 was released and the battery life on the last 5 android devices (Since the Samsung Vibrant) has always improved over time. My Evo 4G was up to around 30 hours per charge.

Are you manually killing apps or using a third-party app manager? If you are, try to refrain from that practice, it's the fastest way to kill battery life. If you aren't using them, turn off or reduce background polling services (email checking, social networking updates, weather updates, etc.).

Finally, since this is a new device for you, you're probably doing what we all do when we get a new "toy", playing with it constantly. Battery life is directly proportionate to device use, this holds true for any battery-powered device, so the more you're using it the faster battery life decreases.

Thanks. :D
What is this battery drain in standby thing that people are talking about. They say it only happens in International versions and it's samsungs fault. Because my phone is losing bits of battery in standby.

That issue was fixed in an update months ago mate.
Get Gsam battery monitor to get a better idea of whats using your battery (free)
The screen is the biggest killer and if you set it really low, you soon get used to it and it actualy looks better.
If youre dropping a lot of batt' while phone is asleep, then we need to look into it, you could put up some screenshots after a full discharge.
P.s, do you know in the stock "battery use" screen (in settings), if you touch the graph at the top, it takes you to a new screen showing when you had a signal and when the screen was on/of

P.s. when the screen is off, the phone goes to deep sleep after like a minute but it still has to be a phone so low signal will hammer the battery, turning off "mobile data" when u dont need it will make a huge difference

You can see where i had a huge battery drop while rebooting but screen was on most of the rest of the time and its a constant drop.
With screen off it should be a much less steep drop

Someone please help. I lose 5% to 6% every hour. I have factory reset, and disabled s voice. I keep my wifi and mobile network on, but i have juice defender which turns it off during sleep, and turns network off if wifi is on and vice versa. I really hate not using it for 7-8 hours and losing tons of battery.

Did you try the Gsam Battery Monitor? I'm trying it out now to see where my battery drain is coming from. Download it and let it run for a whole day and post your results. I'm sure that would help the knowledgeable people here to help you.

Download and app called "App Cache Cleaner". After you install it go into the settings and check "clear all" and set the "auto clear interval" to what ever you want, i did every 4 hrs. After you finish then your done. This will now clear an apps cache every time you open it and it will clear all cache every so many hours you set it for. I tried this yesterday to see how much smoother my S3 would run and amazingly my battery life was incredible. I took it off the charger at 7am, used it all day under normal use (Facebook, texting, calling, and web browsing) and when I went to plug it in for the night at 11:30pm, it was at 13%! My S3 also feels snappier and launches apps quicker also.Give this a try and see what you think. I'm sold and will continue to use this everyday

This is a waste of time. Android is Linux and Linux cashes apps as a normal part of system maintenance. If you kill a cached app the system will simply cache different app. The only thing you're doing is wasting system resources with yet another daemon. As far as Linux is concerned, unused ram is wasted ram.

What you're experiencing is a placebo effect.

This is definitely not a waste of time. With any computer , if you clear cache it is going to run better than having a bunch of cache built up. This app doesn't "kill" other apps so it isn't a waste of ram. It simply clears temporary files that the app created. Maybe you can enlighten me on how my battery life is from a placebo effect? Numbers don't lie dude.

I have used Linux as my sole operating system since 2001, and have used Android since 2008 (check my post history on these forums). And, I have programmed for both platforms for years. How long have you done any of that?

Have you ever researched why apps create cache? When you clear cache within an app that cache has to be replaced for the app to perform as intended. Constantly clearing cache, and then have the app replace it, makes the system work harder than it was designed to because the user is constantly battling the system. If you leave everything alone and let Android manage itself you'll find the system runs great.

Trust me, I'm a developer, I know what I'm talking about.

Perhaps you now know that what you have been doing for a while is wrong and you are reluctant to admit it?

I understand what cache is for and why the system does it. My post was not directed to how to make my phone run better. I was simply sharing what I had found with my battery life since I started clearing cache on set intervals. I could careless that your're a developer. I know what works for me and my device and like I said, numbers don't lie. So when when my battery says 15% when its been off the charger for a much longer time than usual, I know I must be doing something right and the only thing I changed was installing that cache app.

Well, I promise you, having an extra app constantly running in the background (using power) clearing cache (so the caches have to constantly be rebuilt) is not the reason for the increase in your battery life. That practice is actually detrimental to battery life. I'll bet your battery life would increase even more if you disabled that cache cleaner.

That doesn't make sense because my battery life increased when I installed it so that means if I take it back off I will only be in the same boat as I was before. I have no issues with my battery now so it works for me. Like I said, I was just sharing what works with my device.
