I purchase both recently and decided to make a video review for those wondering about them. I know when I was looking to purchase the otterbox that there wasn't any videos, so heres my video review.

YouTube - Otterbox impact/commuter series case review- Droid eris

Check it out if your at all interested. I read on here that someone else with the impact series case had a issue with the proximity sensor, but I was completely fine with it on.

The screen protector isnt the best because it doesnt cover every inch but i'm fine with it.

The commuter series case is a nicer design but I feel as if the impact case would take a better drop then the commuter. To have a detailed review check the video.

The screen protector for the commuter case was seriously interfering with the touch screen for me. The back button wouldn't respond most of the time and just the overall responsiveness was hurting with it on. Took it off and a world of a difference. I agree the commuter case is a little slippery but it is sleek and I feel it protects it well.

So there's a little flap for the charging plug in part too? looks weird in the vid.

It covers the mini usb port and has this interesting design which shows the little circle but I doubt it would be a deal breaker for anyone.

As for the guy with the issues pertaining to the screen protector, it seems weird you had such difficulties. If I didn't know I put the screen protector on I wouldn't even know its there for the exception that its not a exact fit, but its close enough and besides you get it with the cases so it never hurts to try them.

Worst case is to get a bse or invisibleshield, but I am pretty happy with the screen protector and cases in whole.

Awesome review! I can't wait for my commuter case (it's coming tomorrow from newegg).

For those of you interested in the impact series, you might want to check out ebay for a case made out of thermoplastic polyurethane.

I bought this one a few months ago:

this one

The design is exactly like the otterbox impact series (the ebay photo is wrong), but it's not prone to being a lint magnet, and it feels more like those smooth rubber bouncy balls that kids play with. I do believe it's a little more rigid than the all-silicone material.

I had problems with the proximity sensor before, but haven't had problems since switching to this smoke-colored case.

How long have you had the phone?? No offense but try it with the screen protector for a week and then a week without it and get back to me.

I have had it on for a week and have not had any issues. It's technology so I wouldn't disregard that it may affect a few, but so far its been a awesome screen protector and case

commuter came today from newegg. (3 days shipping somehow took 6 ). anyway its sleaker then i thought it would be and very slippery and weird to get used to . i was using the plastic ribbed holster with same hard shell the salemen sold me with it, which seemed to provide more grip. but i will try and get used to the commuter.
also commuter case DOES go into the said holster above, albeit a lil tight, but it goes.

Sorry, but thought it was funny @ ~5:50, "I'm gonna keep this one on cuz it's more expensive..." but not because of the better protection it offers. I've had the commuter case for about a month after going naked since I got my phone in Jan. It does offer great protection, I dropped it once from roughly 3ft or so face down onto a sidewalk. As I picked up the phone I worried about a cracked screen but it as just fine (*Phew*) and there weren't even scratches on the case. As for a screen protector, I don't use one. I had the invisheild on for about 2 weeks and hated it. Felt like rubber on the screen. I didn't use the one that came with the case because it feels so much better without one on. Plus, there's a scratch test video around here that shows that you don't really need one.

The Commuter series is an awesome case. I tend to set my phone on my lap when I am in my vehicle and when I get out..bam on the cement. This has happened to me a few times and the case holds up to its name. It has a small scratch on the bottom corner of the polycarbonate shell from one of the falls..but all in all...I've been happy with this case since it released.

This OP that made the video calls the polycarbonate "cheap" plastic and its not at all. Very durable and scratch resistant. It does have a slippier kind of feel or texture to it compared the the naked feel. But i can live with that.

Well from the standpoint of looking at the polycarbonate(which is just a thin layer of plastic) I called it cheap plastic.

But nevertheless its good to know that this case was able to take a drop. Thats why I stated in the review I wasn't sure how it would take a drop but good info about it for those wondering with an example
