So I'm sitting in Friday's...

Being envious sucks doesnt it?

Hey mbell!!! I just got done readin that your post/thread. Very entertaining stuff. LOL. I understand your frustration though. Take a Zen like approach :p.

If I could afford it then I would have all Android phones, and even an iPhone. Yes, I said it an iPhone.

I'm probably going to get crucified for saying that.

My roommate has an iPhone 3GS and I've played with it before. It's a good phone, but not for me. I like the Sense UI too much to go to just an icon catalog. Once HTC Incredible comes out, it will be the phone to beat until HTC EVO 4G and then we'll see what Apple has up their sleeves for their 4th gen iPhone. According to the rumors and "leaked" images, it wont be much different in design. The design of the phone is just so bleh now since it's basically been the same for 3 years. I think Apple will have to do a big overhaul.

I am not really an iPhone "fan" but I do like Apple and own an iMac, Macbook and iPad. Why would Apple have to do a big overhaul on a phone that has sold like crazy and still continues to sell? The main features users have wanted will be addressed with 4.0, they really dont have to do much else. HTC has some incredible phones coming up (no pun intended) but Android users like myself are becomingly increasingly frustrated with carriers taking their sweet ass time to upgrade to the newest OS. What good is it going to be to have an awesome phone that stuck on an outdated version of Android no one makes new apps for? Say what you will about Apple, but at least they know how to run sh*t smoothly. Android and the market are a mess right now and Google really needs to get it sorted out, and fast or they risk losing customers.

I'm saying that Apple would have to do a big overhaul on the design and hardware that accompany the new software to keep it ahead of the game. Just catching up with Android on software stuff isn't really going to cut it. Apple will definitely still continue to sell because of its brand name, its brilliant marketing, its loyal fan base, its household name, and because it is "cool" to have a product made by Apple. It's all the rage in middle school and high school, which isn't necessarily a bad thing... i'd just prefer to have a phone that not everyone else has because it's now like... "Oh you have an iPhone too." and never "Oh wow... what is that? I've never seen that before."

Do you mean the "market" as in Android smartphone market or Android Marketplace? All companies risk losing customers... plenty of Android customers have switched to Apple and plenty of Apple customers have switched to Android (especially when Droid and Nexus One were released). Android is the fastest growing mobile OS while Apple has fallen flat according to latest statistics. It'll be interesting to see how the mobile OS market share is like 3 years from now with the iPhone most likely going to Verizon too later this year or 2011 and Android phones just pumping out.

Few questions... why don't you get the iPhone? You seem to be a huge fan of it even though you don't say so. You are obviously a huge Apple fan from what I can interpret from your numerous posts. Just curious.

Just because I like Apple doesnt mean I have to have an iPhone, I prefer the Android OS. However, its becoming a giant clusterf**k. I am sick of waiting for Sprint to decide they are ready to give us an update. I am still THREE full versions behind on 1.5 . Most of the best apps are 1.6+ and by the time my Hero gets 2.1, 2.5 will either be here or well on its way. Then its the same sh*t all over again  At this point, I would rather just have a Nexus One so I could get the newest version of Android when its released. If it doesnt come to Sprint by the time the new iPhone is out, I may be tempted to just leave Sprint and Android because this has become ridiculous.

Yes because apple pushing out an update once per year, is so much better than androids 2/3 times per year.

Apple only has one phone to support, as well, so there is no excuse for them NOT to keep up with androids pace.

Dude, who cares how often GOOGLE puts out an update if SPRINT doesnt let me have it?! Does me no good at all. They didnt upgrade to 1.6 or 2.0 as they said they would and by the time 2.1 gets here (if it ever does) 2.5 will be ready. At least iPhone users get their updates!

Well if you really want to go by iphones/apples update scheme, then you should be happy to get an update any earlier than a year from the procuct launch instead of bitching about it.

It's not Sprint that is holding this back. It's HTC who have not released it yet. I guess they are thoroughly testing it on the Hero (in its various forms) so that they don't release a pup.

HTC have not been the best at communicating a firm release date for Android 2.1 on the Hero but it is expected late April/early May. I've played with 2.1 on a HTC Legend and it's awesome believe me. SenseUI gets even better.

As for Apple - yes they changed the smartphone game for the better but now they are playing catch-up. Let's see how good OS4.0 really is. From what we have seen so far it is still behind SenseUI on Android 2.1 (in my opinion)

Yes, it is Sprint holding it up. They have said like 6 weeks ago they have it and are testing it. I am sure it's their junk ware like NASCAR and nfl apps holding it up.
