This is a warning for anyone looking at purchasing this phone anytime in the near future.

DO NOT BUY IT...

I will say that I love the phone, and I think that it is a great platform, but I think that one of the key parts of this phone is already gone. Manufacturer support. HTC has completely removed all signs of the Eris from there site. The phone is being End of Life very soon, and it will be replaced with another phone in the next month or so.

I just spent the past 30 mins digging through the HTC site, and I cannot find but one note/link to the phone at all. All support links have been removed, and any details are gone.

Looking at the site, the difference is the General site, or the US site.. I did find that it is not listed on the general site at all, but it is found on the US site. I suppose this is because it is only by Verizon, although I would have expected it to show on both.

Either way, I do feel that anyone looking to get the Eris really should wait. With the Nexus One and the Incredible coming out soon for Verizon it really is not worth buying at this time.

Thanks for the links guys...

Understood about the different sites.

I would agree that at this point it would probably be best to wait a month (or how ever long it takes). I got tired of waiting back in Feb. My justification was the fact that my wife and I were both getting one, so with the Eris being bogo for a total cost of $80 for two it was a no brainer for me.

But the Nexus One and the Incredible will be much more expensive than the Eris... so it's really up to the buyer and how much they want to spend.

That's only because you purchased the Eris subsidized... Look up the MSRP for the phone unsubsidized it's around $470- at the store.

Yes it's cheaper but not much at least when compared to the Nexus One, we still don't have pricing for the Incredible yet.

VZW has officially announced that they will discontinue offering the Eris some time in May. Now everyone needs to realize that the phone is six months old. Who in their right mind would ever want to buy the six month old bastard step bother to the Moto Droid?

IMO this is a little premature and if VZW had held up their end of the bargain by upgrading the Eris to 2.x when they said they would, by the end of Quarter one, maybe they wouldn't discontinue it. Anyway, no more dead kittens. I like my Eris it's everything I wanted in a "phone" and an added feature that I wasn't expecting... I can make a phone call using more than one number.

Long Live the Eris

I just think this is the most mis-guided thing I have read yet.

I know no one personally that would prefer the Droid over the Eris, though I am sure they exist.
Even so, I don't think a statement like this is justified, relevant, deserved, or anything more than troll-ish.
