Root [GUIDE] Unbrick OR Unroot LG Motion 4G [KDZ]

Optimus Regard users, use this guide:
http://androidforums.com/optimus-re...-unbricking-unrooting-optimus-regard-kdz.html

Don't like reading? Skip to the end of this post for a YouTube video on how to do this. I warn you though, read everything at least in the video before you begin.

Right now it is likely that anyone here will brick due to the phone having a secured bootloader. Flashing this firmware is your best shot at fixing any brick from removing stuff with root permissions.

Another thing I know is that some phones have been clocked at 1.5 GHz and others clocked at 1.2 GHz.
If your phone was clocked at 1.2 GHz, this firmware will clock you at 1.5 GHz!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's a good thing :D

-Confirmed here: http://androidforums.com/motion-4g-...t-getting-back-stock-kdz-wip.html#post4902686

This firmware link is from a serial number of an LG Motion 4G clocked at 1.5 GHz. None of us know if LG made two separate firmwares with some phones clocked at 1.2 and others at 1.5 or if phones that came with 1.5 was a simple typo by LG. So this firmware WILL clock you at 1.5GHz

Instructions:
Download firmware from here: Official Motion 4G MS77010c_03 Firmware - Android Forums
Download the programs to convert and flash firmware: KDZ_FW_UPD_EN.zip
Download the new drivers: https://www.box.com/shared/32c5t7fj2w8xcwr0krjo

How to get into emergency mode:
Hold Power+Volume Up+Volume Down
To get out of e-mode, pull battery (do not do this while flashing firmware!)
Picture of emergency mode (Thanks to Sepero):
download%20mode.jpg

Thanks to DarkStarONE for how to enter emergency mode.

Before you start flashing firmware, please make sure you charge your battery for at least 30 minutes.

These are the instructions to convert the cab to a KDZ and flashing it:

  1. Install phone drivers
  2. Install msxml.msi
  3. Disable antivirus software
  4. Open UpTestEX_mod2_marwin.exe
  5. Wait for the program to open
  6. Look for "Encrypt cab file to kdz file"
  7. Click the folder icon
  8. Choose the location of the cab you downloaded for MS770 firmware
  9. Encrypt cab -> kdz Program will freeze up. DO NOT EXIT until program says Done!!! Otherwise it won't finish converting.
  10. Close program
  11. Open KDZ_FW_UPD.exe
  12. "Type" choose CDMA
  13. Choose in "Phonemode": Emergency
  14. Click the folder icon and choose the kdz file that UpTestEX_mod2_marwin.exe just made.
  15. Click Launch software update and enjoy!

If you are stuck in a bootloop, do this (it will factory reset by following this):

Phones don't fix themselves.

I am stuck on trying to convert the cab file. After I convert I get a file with a white box that is a .kdz file. When I use this file and click launch software update I get:

[R&D Test Tools Log File]

20:13:06 : Launching SW update
20:13:06 : Unpacking KDZ
20:14:07 : KDZ file extraced
20:14:08 : Extract file error
20:14:10 : ===FINISHED===

?

Gentleman, you claim this is simple? Only if by dumb luck you had the right O.S. and a small bit of savvy mate for the tech. In this business, details are everything!!! You must include O.S. and other tidbits. A step by step guide if you will. Us more experienced may be able to figure it out, but that's exactly what it is, figuring it out. Not everybody thinks just like you. When you post something of this nature, assume that you're talking to an absolute newbie and that you're teaching class. Solus O.S., Zorin O.S., Ubuntu 12.04 LTS O.S. No Windows here my friends. I just bought this phone, the LG Motion 4G and thought I found a reliable source as info to root. Too questionable my friend. I def don't know everything, but that was my advice. I learn from the best. However, if you can "mas solidify" this method, I will follow, and donate to your methods I use (when I have the cash ;)) Former samsung intercept owner with custom tweeked cm7 running stock Froyo, then Gingi, then ICS on that crap phone.

All guides have room for improvement, but like sammyz said, giving specifics are better than generalities.

As an Ubuntu user, I too wish there were a way to flash the firmware using my pc. Unfortunately, we are relying on LG's software for flashing firmware, and as far as I know there is no other way to flash firmware on the phone. I tried running the LG software in a Microsoft virtualbox, but it was not successful.

For now, if I need to unbrick, I'm forced to borrow a relatives computer. If anyone knows a way to flash the firmware on Linux that info would greatly be appreciated.
