I would like to know if you samsung S2 shuts down by itself sometimes?

Ahhhhhh, and it is annoying because i have to pull out the battery in order to get it back on!

just pressing the power bottom will not come on

Mine does it. sometimes when i see my phone, it has being shut by itself, i just have this phone for about 3 weeks.

I love the phone besides that issue

Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forums, Dannynica.

Yes, that issue is cropping up here and there with various Galaxy S devices. So far we've not seen a remedy, but several tries seem to give success:

- The battery pull

- The "wipe cache" in recovery menu

- The factory data reset

- The installation of a 3rd party launcher, such as Nova or GoEX, etc.

Good luck. And please remain a member of our community.. post back if you try something. :)

Thankkkkk youuuuu to everyone of you for answering back to my message here. Unfortunately i think that i passed the month purchase already. i am happy with the phone, except for that issue that i have.

I bought this phone thru the boostmobile website, so i am thinking it will be harder to get to talk to someone.

Thank you every one

And of course, i will be a menber here, and will come more often

Thanks

Surprisingly, I've found Boost support to be more on-point than ANY of the contract based carriers I've had in the past (and I've had them all!)
It wouldn't hurt to try. The super-secret # that gets you to a live rep is (877) 438-8643. I'd give them a buzz just to see how they handle it if you're not too terribly far past your 30 days. Wouldn't surprise me if they took good care of you. I just think that random shut down issue is a cause for concern on a brand new phone that should be addressed sooner than later imo.

I want to thank you for this info! after reading till my eyes hurt I found your post. I changed the launcher to Go launcher and I also installed battery re calibration to wipe battery memory I have not had one issue with shut down. not sure if it was the launcher or the battery memory that was shutting phone down. I hope this will help others as it helped me. Im stock rooted which i found pretty easy. this phone is definately a little more complicated then the zte warp lol.

I just got this phone on thursday yes 4 days ago, I had this issue from the moment it updated itself. I stock rooted I then went to play store downloaded go launcher (you can download any launcher of your choice) then down loaded battery calibration (which will wipe battery memory and reset it) but you need a rooted phone for this. there is a simple easy root for stock in this forum which worked flawlessly. since yesterday morning i have not had a single shut down with this method. hope this helps you as much as it has me. I dont know if it was the battery or the launcher but which ever it seemed to be the fix. was very frusterated myself with this shut down crap lol and wasnt giving up. this is a great forum and I have found it very helpful. (oh what ever launcher you download make sure you set it to be the one to always use.)

Im assuming you need ROOT to wipe cache in recovery...Correct? Ive done the factory reset but havent tried the 3rd party launcher although i cant understand how the stock launcher would be the cause of the issue.

Edit: Nevermind i figured out how to get into stock recory, I Wiped the Cache only and did not install a 3rd party launcher. I want to see if the clearing the cache was enough. Ill keep and eye on my phone and see if it still shuts down on my randomly. ill post back if i see or dont see improvement.

I had this problem all the time with my S2. A lot of times I wouldn't notice it, but then there would be a notification from Android Assistant telling me that the phone had re-booted. Mine was re-booting on it's own 3, sometimes 4 times a day.

I returned the phone and got a refund--I personally would not want an S2 after that experience.....and I got horrible reception with the phone, even with wifi when 5' away from the router.....

Had my S2 shutdown twice recently (again); it has happened before then goes away.

After rebooting I find that 40%+ battery is lost in a couple hours and checking the battery statistics showed Android system and Android OS at fault.

Hopefully it will disappear again.

i found changing the launcher and using battery calibration works perfectly I have not had any issues with that since doing that. battery callibration you fully charge phone and let drain then fully charge with no interruptions. it wipes old battery memory and starts fresh. Im not sure if that or the launcher fixed my issue but i have been running like a charm with no shut downs at all.

(seemed like as soon as battery hit a certain percentage it would shut down. so Im leaning towards battery memory.) hope this helps.

Mine does it when it runs low on RAM, If it's been overcharged and the battery is holding extra electricity, or if it's in a constant fluctuation with 3G/4G.

Did some tests with that. The issue with the RAM is resolved with a decent ROM. The fluctuation is resolved by keeping 4G off when you are not stationary (This applies to people who have a spotty and inconsistent 4G signal in the area you travel in),Though no resolution with the battery overcharged (Have to do battery pull).

Try to not charge it overnight. Let it get to around 10% and remove when done charging. Turn the phone all the way off at least once a day and keep 4G off when traveling. Those are my suggestions.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue but I am hearing it from others and have experienced it myself too.

Edit: I think when the RAM is running low, it eats up more battery. I also think the signal fluctuations may cause extreme drain as well. These may be causing corrupt battery stats.... hmm...

you are right on your points. the weak signal will cause your phone to use more power to maintain the signal. 4g g is the same with an additional radio. low ram causes lockups and freezes the power drain you see there is under the surface. is it background processes or and app gone mad. begging to differ battery storage is what it is no extra. all in all your oservations are on key

Mine does random reboots. Some days no problems then some days I have one or two reboots. Do you think low RAM could cause this?
